Phishing Alert

Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has amazing job opportunities, and unfortunately scammers think so too. Here’s how to know if you are being scammed or not.

During MPI’s recruitment process we will NOT:

  1. Ask you for money
  2. Offer to send you a check before doing any work
  3. Require you to provide sensitive personal information, like your driver’s license or social security number (this happens later as part of the background check process)
  4. Send you emails from free email accounts such as Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, and others
  5. You will never be presented a job offer without meeting some of the MPI team face-to-face. Interviews will always be in person or video conference if necessary

If you believe you have been scammed, please contact local law enforcement. Please see further guidance from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

FAQs

What are the application deadlines?

Unless an application deadline is listed on the posting, the open position does not have a formal deadline. Instead, we will keep the position open until we have a large enough candidate pool to review. For some positions, this could only be a week or two. For others, it could be longer.

Can I apply for multiple jobs?

Absolutely! We love to see an interest in working for MPI. Event planning is our passion and we strive to hire equally passionate people.

I just applied, now what?

Great question. Unfortunately now is the dreaded wait time. It can take a couple weeks for the hiring manager to review resumes and have them let People and Performance know who they wish to move to the next steps. We promise we will be in touch either through a phone call or another email. Please be sure to check your voicemail box is able to accept messages, and it’s not a bad idea to keep an eye on your junk/spam folders too – just in case.

I interviewed/applied last year and wasn’t selected. May I reapply?

Absolutely! Maybe it wasn’t the right fit last year, but a lot can happen in a year. Feel free to apply again!

What does MPIs recruitment & interview process look like?

First we post the job on our company website and on various other job boards. As candidates come on in, the hiring manager reviews the applications and selects who they want People and Performance to phone screen. People and Performance then contacts candidates for a phone screen and, when done, makes recommendations for the hiring manager of who to move forward. At this step it can differ. Sometimes the hiring manager will call for their own screening, and sometimes they decide will bring the candidate(s) in for a formal interview. The final step before a decision is made is always a panel interview with other MPI staff members.

What is a phone screen?

A phone screen is a 20 minute interview with potential candidates. It’s a great way for us to get to know you better and see if what you understand about MPI and the role you have applied for.

What is a panel interview?

The final step in our interview process is a panel interview. We bring in a few people from our team to interview you simultaneously. There’s usually 3-6 panel interviewers depending on the role and availability of staff. For some people this can be overwhelming, but we promise – we are a really great group of people. You’ll probably find yourself laughing with the panel and possibly talking about Star Wars.

How much time will an interview take?

General rule of thumb for an interview is about an hour. People and Performance will let you know when they set up the interview about how much time to be prepared to be interviewing. If you have multiple interviews in one day, the time spent at MPI headquarters could be longer.

What comes next? After I’ve completed the interview(s)?

At the end of the interview, People and Performance will generally give you a time line of when to expect to hear from them. It’s a general guideline, but it gives you an idea of when to expect a call.
