Equity, Diversity & Inclusion in the Workplace: Starting a Courageous Conversation

Description:

Are you having courageous conversations? Various dimensions of diversity such as race, gender, class, and ability have historically created privileges as well as barriers. In our communities and today’s workplace, consistent and continuous education, training, and policies that focus on Equity Diversity and Inclusion awareness are essential for courageous organizations.

This introductory session will look at aspects of history, terminology, legislation, barriers, and drivers with respect to Equity Diversity and Inclusion. Our discussion will allow us to have an engaging conversation and be informed on how we can reduce barriers and keep the conversation going.

This session will provide one (1) hour of CEU

Domain E: Human Resources.

 

Session Objectives:

• Discuss the importance of land acknowledgments

• Identify and discuss relevant terminology with respect to, Human Rights, Discrimination, Bias, Stereotypes Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Equality

• As agents of change. reflect and Identify actions we can take within the Atlantic chapter and in our respective organizations to create and foster welcoming environments in inclusive and respectful ways.

• Reflect on and express a deeper self-awareness of unconscious bias and understand how it can impact certain groups and individuals in the workplace and in the community.

• Reflect on ways to be MPI Atlantic diversity champions and what actions we can take to ensure we as well as our clients are ready for tomorrow

Are we really prepared for in-person events?  

Risk Management and contracts are an essential part of the events industry. We are pros at preparing for the unpredictable, identifying threats and developing response plans.  However, with COVID-19, we are facing new risks and it is important to understand how to navigate them.  Even as we return to in person events and social distancing restrictions begin to lesson, there are still new factors we must consider that weren’t necessary before. 

Join Malak Sidky, DES, HMCC, founder and president of Health Care Event Planning, for this informative session.  Malak is certified in Pandemic On-Site Protocol from the Event Leadership Institute.  

In this important workshop, we will analyze a case study and explore ways to navigate risks to ensure a safe event and prepare solid contracts for the world today.  

Let’s arm ourselves with the tools and information we need to execute in person events safely.

Malak Sidky, DES, HMCC
President, Health Care Event Planning

Malak Sidky, DES, HMCC is the founder and president of Health Care Event Planning. She has a BSc in Biochemistry from McGill University and a Master’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Toronto, as well as holding the Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate. She is fluently bilingual. Malak teaches Event Planning in the School of Creative Industries at Conestoga College, Risk Management in the School of Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Arts at Fanshawe College and has taught Special Event Operations at Centennial College. She is a member of the Professional Development Committee for MPI Toronto and is the volunteer coordinator for Meeting Professionals Against Human Trafficking (MPAHT).

Malak’s breadth of experience in the industry is vast; she has planned and executed a variety of health care educational events and projects for various clients in the health and pharmaceutical arena. Her events include think tanks, webinars, workshops, advisory board meetings, continuing medical education (CME) sessions, wellness retreats, union conventions and multi-day conferences.
