LEO Events

Event professionals are uniquely positioned to influence the global discussion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and today’s climate presents the perfect backdrop to raise and move awareness into action. Using themselves as a case study, LEO Events takes a deep dive into the challenges the industry faces and what must be done to support the future of diversity in meetings and events.

Jon and Chelsea have assisted LEO leadership in the development and launch of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee, which works cultivate an environment in which everyone feels able to bring their best selves to work.

Speakers

Jon BrownAs director of development, programs and partnerships, Jon Brown, CMP, DMCP, comes from a wide variety of experience in event strategy and management, ranging from restaurants and academia to Fortune 500 companies. His primary focus is the initiation and supervision of a wide range of programs, partnerships, and strategic marketing. Jon has been recognized as one of the top ten “Young Memphis” professionals by the Memphis Chamber of Commerce, and most recently, a “Top 25 Young Event Pro to Watch” by Special Events Magazine. 

Chelsea TillmanAs production coordinator, Chelsea Tillman, MPS, comes from a wide range of experience in event strategy, project management and strategic communication development across the publication, transportation and healthcare sectors. Her primary focus is content management/development and event logistics for a range of Fortune 500 companies. She was recognized as a GDUSA 2019 winner for her content development in the category of Brochures & Collateral.

                Director of Convention Sales, Wilmington and Beaches CVB


Meetings Mean Business Ambassador Molly Johnson, CMP, QAS, will share an update on MBB's industry advocacy work.

Meetings Mean Business is an industry-wide coalition to showcase the undeniable value that business meetings, trade shows, incentive travel, exhibitions, conferences and conventions bring to people, businesses and communities. By rallying industry advocates, working with stakeholders, conducting original research, engaging with outside voices and more, the coalition brings the industry together to emphasize its importance. Comprised of over 60 members, the coalition unites the meetings industry with one strong and powerful voice.

Molly Johnson, CMP, QAS has been in the meetings industry over 25 years working in all areas of hotels for both independent hotels and with the Hilton brand. Since 2015 Molly has been the Director of Convention Sales for the Wilmington & Beaches CVB in Wilmington, NC. 

Molly is a Past President of MPI Carolinas Chapter and has been an MPI Board Retreat Facilitator since February 2017 working with chapters varying in size. She has served on multiple MPI committees & task forces on the International level and is currently on the Chapter & Membership Advisory Council. She also serves on the PCMA Southeast Chapter Board of Directors and is an Ambassador for Meetings Mean Business. 

In the Wilmington community, Molly is a board member for A Safe Place, a local non-profit assisting domestic victims of human trafficking. Molly teaches human trafficking awareness to hotels and hospitality related organizations.

  • Formulate plans to acquire any new or specialized skills to accomplish your goals.
  • Execute, monitor, and revise, as necessary, your plan of action.

Steve Kinsley
Steve Kinsley, president of Kinsley Meetings, has over 35 years in the hospitality and meetings industry. His career has taken him to such diverse properties as the Broadmoor, the Westin St. Francis, Keystone Resort & Conference Center and The Hotel Teatro in Denver. In 1999 he joined his wife, Allison, in their meeting and convention planning firm, Kinsley Meetings.  
 
Steve has served on the Meetings Industry Council of Colorado Executive Committee, is a past president of the MPI Rocky Mountain Chapter, and has served on the San Francisco Travel Association Self-Contained Advisory Board, Vail Resorts/Rock Resorts Hospitality Advisory Board, Loews Hotels Advisory Board and the Fort Worth Convention Bureau Advisory Board.
 
In the community, he is a director and past chairman of the board of Junior Achievement - Rocky Mountain Inc., has served as a director of the Men for the Cure Foundation and serves on the Gamma-Tau Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity House Corporation.


Mekeda Johnson BrooksMekeda Johnson-Brooks is the chief client experience architect of MJ Design and Company, an MBE and WBE certified marketing and communications agency that solves problems, tells stories and builds connections through strategy, design, development and execution of large-scale events, graphic design and staff incentives. An avid organizer with a strong background in negotiation, project management and instructional design, she regularly pioneers new client experiences for corporate and nonprofit organizations.

An alumna of DePaul University, Mekeda serves on the 2021 Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Independent & Small Business Owners (ISBO) Advisory Board and is an active member of the Chicago Area Chapter.
