Adapting to Change: Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

Adapting to change is not easy. As individuals, we tend to resent and resist change. In business, adapting to change is necessary, but the process takes time to ensure the right decisions are made.

Every year over a span of 20+ days, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo raises millions of dollars in scholarships for children, attracts more than 2.4 million visitors, manages over 13,000 volunteers, and allows for hundreds of vendors to provide for their families. Then, in March 2020 with the snap of a finger, everything instantly changed. The rodeo completely closed, and everyone was sent home. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo had to adapt quickly for the short term as well as adapt to address future programming. On October 27th, we sit down with Dr. Chris Boleman, President and CEO of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, for an insider’s peek at how they persevered and adapted through an unexpected and unimaginable situation.

Learner Objectives:

  • Learn to handle the demands of change without being overwhelmed by them.
  • Understand that while everything is not controllable, everything is manageable.
  • Discover how to navigate an ever-changing world through overcoming the fear of change.
  • Cultivate a mindset of perseverance in order to confront and conquer adversity.
