Andy launched his showbusiness career as a high school student in 1972 when he co-founded LD Systems, a full service sound, lighting, and video production company. He supported nationally - and internationally - touring artists like Don Williams and Lily Tomlin while completing a degree in Psychology and Sociology at Rice University. He then spent the next several decades leveraging his skills and talents to produce tours, performances, and events for A-list musical groups and other artists, as well as Fortune 100 clients.

With a love of teaching, Andy is happy to share his expertise. He has spoken at numerous industry events, including The Special Event and Event Solutions conventions, MPI, and the International Special Events Society; and he has served on several boards and advisory boards, including the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Downtown Historic District, and Business Volunteers for the Arts. Andy was both an adjunct professor and advisor for Audio Production at the Art Institute of Houston. He was nominated Technical Producer of the Year by Event Solutions Magazine and has received several national awards.

Andy became a Senior Producer at Staging Solutions, Inc. in 2012, where he managed corporate accounts for Exxon, LyondellBasell, TMC, and St. Luke’s Health. He maintained his more than 20-year relationship with Shell Oil, adding to his repertoire of high-profile events numerous creative and entertainment-driven productions.

After semi-retiring from his post at Staging Solutions in 2020, Andy continues his engagement with the performing arts as the technical producer for the Music with Friends concert series, and a producer for the Santa Fe Opera’s 2021 Season simulcasts. He continues to produce virtual broadcasts and touring activations for valued Houston-based clients, and is most excited by his new role as full-time grandfather.

Venue Details

Brothers John Kirby Allen and Augustus Chapman Allen arrived in 1836 and purchased 6,642 acres to establish a city, named after General Sam Houston. The site, at the confluence of Buffalo and White Oak Bayous, eventually became Houston's first port.

The Sunset Coffee Building, back then known as the International Coffee Building, was built in 1910 as an annex to the 1880's W.D. Cleveland & Son's wholesale grocer supply building. Both buildings accepted goods as they came into the port. It also functioned as a coffee roasting company.  The Columbian coffee was an important role in Houston's development and economy.

This raw, industrial building was renovated in 2016 and MPI is so pleased to share this iconic piece of history with our guests.
