SESSION OVERVIEW
The session will begin with an introduction to the Events Industry Council’s four principles of sustainable events. These principles lay the groundwork for how to plan a socially, environmentally, and economically responsible event.
Next, participants will be introduced to the brand new Sustainable Event Standards released by the EIC. These standards replace the former APEX/ASTM certification process for sustainability in the meetings & events industry. The new Sustainable Event Standards (SES) are designed to be easily adoptable by event organizers and suppliers, with four certification levels for various levels of achievement: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Julia will describe how participants can pursue certification for their own events.
Finally, Julia will moderate a series of CSR case studies from MPI chapter members and other Indiana-based sustainability professionals. These case studies will give participants concrete examples of what it looks like to plan a responsible event and will include the opportunity for Q&A. Participants will leave the session with multiple CSR ideas to take back and apply to their own events.
