We salute all the nurses serving our community!

George Kimotho, husband of our own MPIOC Director of Special Events, starts his day when his alarm clock goes off at 5:00am on the dot. He showers, brushes his teeth, and grabs his lunch pail out of the fridge. Then he makes his way out to the garage to get dressed for the day; putting on his scrubs and tennis shoes, making sure not to forget the face masks and shields he purchased from Amazon as the hospital he works out does not have enough supplies to provide them for him. Then he hops in his car and heads to the hospital for his 12-hour shift with his patients. George has been a registered nurse for 10 years and he says, “there is no place like the present to use all his knowledge I have acquired over the past 10 years in treating patients today” COVID 19 has run rampant through many local hospitals and medical facilities in Orange County and George is just one of the many nursing staff that has been caring and treating for patients during this time, putting their own health at risk in the process.

After his 12-hour shift ends and he heads back home, he once again stops off in the garage to de-robe from the days germs before entering the house in a clean pair of sweatpants. He quickly by passes his wife and puppy and makes a beeline to the shower in an attempt to wash off any and all germs left behind. His shifts at the hospital are long and tiring but he loves every second he is able to spend with his patients throughout the week.

In addition to his full-time job as an RN, George owns a successful moving company, EDI moving; best known for local home, office and event supply moves. George sees the value of giving back to his community, not only through his time spent the hospital but by donating a percentage of the revenue from his moving company to Covid Relief. Throughout the month of April, EDI Moving has been given the ability to donate many different items to Covid positive patients facilities within the New York area. With family members working directly with patients in New York, George has been able to send specific items that have been requested by the hospital staff not only the staff members but for the patients as well. These items include blankets, eye masks, essential oils, coffee makers and more.

There are many more stories out of active members of our community helping to spread positivity and resources. It is our job during this time to do our best to recognize these individuals and to come alongside them to volunteer our efforts and resources as well. We offer up a special thanks to George Kimotho, RN for the work he is doing both with the patients in the hospital and through EDI moving. May each and every one of us continue to find ways to help and encourage those around us during this time.

Thank You,

Alivia Kimotho, CMP CTA
