Top Performing Chapter Award

2019 Industry Legacy Award in Honor of Sandy Gerety Recipient

MPI Rocky Mountain Chapter was proud to honor Patty "Trixie" Farmer, Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management with this prestigious award on June 20th. The award was presented by Barb Taylor Carpender.

Over the course of her career in Denver, Trixie has served on the boards of HSMAI, MPI Rocky Mountain Chapter, MIC and also been involved in CSAE and NACE.

When asked for descriptors from colleagues and family, these are only a few --- yet they speak volumes:
An industry influencer through decades of dedication and commitment to excellence
Epitome of graciousness, generosity and wisdom
The Quintessence of professionalism and class

She willingly shares her wellspring of knowledge with future industry professionals through her position at the Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management, Daniels College of Business - University of Denver.  And, a little-known fact is that she started out as an adult probation and parole officer.  Perfect entrée to working in our industry, eh?!

However, and these may be the most important to her.  She is an exceptional friend to many AND cherishes her roles as a wife, mother and grandmother to Bob, Katie, Jenny, Ryland and Teagan.

MPI Rocky Mountain Chapter Legacy Award in Honor of Sandy Gerety

This award is given in honor of our own Sandy Gerety who was the 19th president of our chapter, serving in 1990-91.  She passed away in June of 1991 at 43 of non-smoking-related lung cancer.  She was both a mentor and friend to many in our chapter and industry and is always remembered with a smile.

Among her many chapter related and enduring accomplishments, which are too numerous to name, she led the effort to begin our Silent Auction fundraiser.

In 1992, to honor Sandy and select individuals in our industry who also are active in our industry and their own communities, our chapter created the Sandy Gerety Humanitarian Award which is now known as the MPI Rocky Mountain Chapter Legacy Award in Honor of Sandy Gerety.    Sandy believed that we all need to look beyond ourselves and our industry and give back to the society at large.  This award is NOT presented annually.  Rather it is bestowed only when an individual is identified and it is subsequently determined that they fit the exacting criteria for this most prestigious honor.

Through the years we’ve recognized members of our industry who have selflessly gone above and beyond to share their ideas, time and energy with one and all.
