The business of meetings has changed over the last couple of years, and so have contracts.  If you are still using 2019 contracts, it is time to review and revamp!  From the tried and true performance clauses like rooms and F&B attrition to determining whether the cancellation of an event triggers the cancellation or force majeure clause, contract clauses have been under extreme scrutiny.  There is COVID-19 language that is becoming common in contracts and some that may be too narrow.  In this session, two lawyer-educators talk about the finer points of contracts, legalease, and the practical and legal impacts of changes.  Bring your questions, your scenarios, and your open mind to this session to become prepared for the new and different way of contracting for meetings.

Learner Objectives:

  • Restate force majeure language so that it is amenable to both parties.
  • Contrast different approaches to performance clause language in attrition clauses depending on booking windows.
  • Defend contract terms with the legal meanings and practical implications behind the terminology.

A Note from MPIRMC President, Stephanie Sadri, CMP
MPIRMC is so excited for this upcoming program. I know all of us have seen a shift in contracts, addendums, expectations and overall business practices. We really wanted to bring in some experts to explain how these changes affect you and I. During this program we get to sit down with two leading legal hospitality experts to really breakdown what these clauses and conditions mean for us, our clients and our events. I encourage you to please send any questions, examples, need for clarification, etc. to me at President@mpirmc.org. We want everyone to be able to walk away with a feeling like they have one more tool in their toolbox. MPIRMC is here to support everyone to be the best advocate and asset for their team, clients, events and hopefully this time together will give us all some key takeaways. This won’t be seeking out legal advice as much as a legal education for attendees. I look forward to seeing you there!
