For a second year in a row, MPISD has selected Shelter to Soldier as our community partner. Shelter to Soldier is a non-profit organization that adopts dogs from local shelters and trains them to become psychiatric service dogs for post-9/11 combat veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and/or other psychological injuries associated with traumatic service experiences.
This organization is the brainchild of Graham Bloem who has been training dogs for over 15 years. He saw two desperate needs -- those of dogs in shelters who were being needlessly euthanized, and those of veterans who return from combat who are suicidal or dealing with other serious psychological issues.
When those two needs are put together, it literally SAVES TWO LIVES AT A TIME.
