This year Southern California hospitality professionals from across the meetings and events industry came together to support Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) on April 12, 2018. GMID is a part of the "Meetings Mean Business" campaign - an industry-wide coalition to showcase the undeniable value that business meetings, trade shows, incentive travel, exhibitions, conferences and conventions bring to people, businesses and communities. By rallying industry advocates, working with stakeholders, conducting original research, engaging with outside voices and more, the coalition brings the industry together to emphasize its importance.
The charity raffle supported The Dream Builders Project, a non-profit organization supporting those who have been affected by human trafficking in Los Angeles. Together the organization is determined to raise awareness and aid as many individuals affected by this cause.
As members made their way into the ballroom for a delicious meal, guest appearances from each organization touched up on the importance of meetings to our community. Collaboration continues to be a common theme within meetings. Each speaker delivered an enlightening approach on the importance of creating personal connections, driving positive business outcomes, and building strong communities.
Amanda Armstrong reminded us all of the importance of face to face meetings and how much time can be saved by in person interaction. A huge thank you to Annamaria Ruffini, visiting us from Italy to attend GMID and speak on behalf of SITE, and Stephanie Waites for her insight on corporate reputation, issues management, and public affairs.
Soon everyone made their way to the studio tram to get transported to the Globe Theatre where our celebratory reception took place. Arriving a red-carpet entrance we were welcomed us alongside Marilyn Monroe and a Disney Pixar Minion! Members enjoyed the delicious dessert options and raised their glasses to celebrate an eventful day and joined together to capture a group photo to commemorate the day.
As the evening came to an end everyone was invited to enjoy Universal Studios Theme Park.
Our MPI Southern California representatives invited us to the many upcoming events that will bring our leaders from meeting and events industries together to network and showcase the power and impact that face to face meetings, conferences, exhibitions, trade shows, and incentive travel have on the industry.
Here is a sneak peak of some upcoming events. We hope to see you there!
