Anti-Human Trafficking Training for Chapter Leaders a Success

On Tuesday, September 30, MPI’s Anti-Human Trafficking Committee hosted an informative session for chapter leaders designed to educate and guide chapters as they plan and host their human trafficking sessions in 2026.  The call was led by Committee members Jill Rasco, Tania Kasongo, and Jennifer Berkemeier, and was well-attended by over two dozen chapter leaders.  Reminder that it is now required to host meaningful educational / awareness content each year focused on human trafficking in our industry.  Please get in touch with committee Chair Jennifer Berkemeier (jberkemeier@huntingtonplacedetroit.com) or incoming Chair Jill Rasco (jill@attendeenet.com) with any questions!  Thank you to all who attended the session.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Global Advisory Committee Office Hours

Join us for a special session hosted by the MPI Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Global Advisory Committee. These office hours will provide Volunteer Chapter Leaders with an opportunity to discuss current EDI initiatives, share ideas, and collaborate. We will also explore key global EDI efforts and discuss how they can support and strengthen regional initiatives.

We encourage Volunteer Chapter Leaders to actively participate, share their experiences, and help develop solutions that are both locally relevant and globally aligned. Your input is essential in shaping a more inclusive future for everyone.

Education

MPI Accredited Education Metric Options

As you plan for 2026, be aware of your options when it comes to reaching your Chapter’s goals of providing accredited education. Education may be accredited through a number of bodies including accredited education organizations (colleges, universities, etc.) and the Events Industry Council to name a few.

If your Chapter chooses to utilize the Events Industry Council, your Chapter has two options:

  1. EIC Preferred Provider Program participant – in this model, your Chapter pays an annual fee to the Events Industry Council (EIC) to be a Preferred Provider. As a Preferred Provider, your Chapter would submit educational event descriptions and necessary information to the EIC prior to the delivery of the content for evaluation. The EIC determines if the content is accredited. Once approved as accredited content, your Chapter can advertise the number of CEUs eligible for the session. After the session is delivered, your Chapter uploads a list of registrants to the EIC. That upload adds the educational session to the participant’s education record on the EIC website. The participant is notified via email to “claim” the number of hours of CEU.

In this model, the benefits are that the education is pre-accredited so all participants know it will count towards their educational requirements. Also, there is no need for additional paperwork for participants since the information is uploaded directly by the Chapter.

  2. Education Session Self Reporting – in this model, your Chapter puts the responsibility of reporting educational CEUs on the participant themselves. The education would not be pre-approved – so the ownness lives on the member, not the Chapter. Since content is not pre-approved, the Chapter should not indicate that the education is worth XX number of CEUs (because it was not pre-evaluated by the EIC). Since participants are reporting their own education record, they will need the session description with learner outcomes including an indication of which CMP-International Standards Domain the content is referencing and a receipt of registration. The participants would upload all information after the session to their individual EIC education record for review. The EIC evaluates the entry when the individual is in the CMP renewal process.

In this model, the benefit to the Chapter is the elimination of Preferred Provider program fees. To be considered – the Chapter may experience a heavier administrative lift as participants sometimes wait until renewal (every 5 years) to add their education and they may be lacking necessary paperwork to prove attendance which often leaders to queries for session descriptions and proof of registration.

Ultimately, the decision to participate in the EIC Preferred Provider program is at the discretion of the local Board of Directors. Be sure to consider all pros and cons as well as the member experience in making your decision.

MPI Foundation Updates

Let’s Celebrate YOU!

As your current term wraps up, take a minute to celebrate your success. Success as Volunteer Chapter Leaders, success of your Chapter programs and success of your Chapter members. Hopefully some of that success germinated as a result of receiving an MPI Foundation Chapter Grant or personal scholarship. Equally, we should celebrate how we give back. Your efforts at the Chapter level help; every donation received has impact and ripples out to your local community and our broader reach through the MPI Foundation.

If you have time to add just one more activation to support your fundraising efforts, it is appreciated.
