The UK Centre for Events Management at Leeds Beckett University - Workforce survey and focus groups

Leeds Beckett

Survey rationale

The UK Centre for Events Management at Leeds Beckett University are running a survey which will provide important information about working conditions, experiences and opportunities in the events industry. This will provide reliable data that can be used to compare the events industry to other sectors of the economy and help shape the industry to ensure it remains a positive and appealing sector to work in. The results will provide insight on:

  • Events careers – including patterns of work, hours worked, salaries, workplace benefits (like pensions), training and development, work-life balance

  • Diversity in the events industry

  • The experiences of different age groups within the events industry

The survey has been designed to be compatible with wider workforce surveys, enabling comparison between these findings about work in the events industry and work in other sectors of the economy. We currently do not have that kind of data, so these findings will be an important opportunity for the industry to collect robust data that can be used to lobby government, to inform workforce planning and development, to educate students and potential newcomers to the industry, and to try and ensure that all jobs in the industry are rewarding.

The survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. In recognition of the time and effort involved in completion, there is opportunity to be entered into a prize draw to win one of five £200 retail vouchers. The survey can be accessed through this link:

Focus group invitation

They are also seeking volunteers to take part in an online focus group or individual interview (to suit participants). Focus groups/interviews will take a maximum of one hour and will cover issues to do with: work patterns and experiences; career development; work-life balance.

If you would be willing to take part in a focus group or interview please contact Professor Kate Dashper, the project lead, at k.dashper@leedsbeckett.ac.uk
