Dallas, TX, 18, 2021: Meeting Professionals International (MPI), the world’s largest meeting and event industry association worldwide, has launched a new certificate course rooted in holistic wellness principles coupled with emotional intelligence theory aimed at placing wellness as a foundation for designing events post-pandemic.

MPI’s Event Wellness Superhero course was developed in response to an increase in interest in wellness integration. In fact, recent findings from the Summer 2021 Meetings Outlook survey say that compared to pre-pandemic, industry professionals are now 63.10% more interested in including or seeing wellness-specific content at meetings they organize or work.

“Trepidation about in-person events is still rampant,” said Jessie States, Vice President of MPI Academy, “While the industry has turned a significant corner when it comes to recovery, hesitation still exists. This course is designed to equip planners with the tools and language needed to make attendees feel safe, confident and well when deciding to attend an event.”

Over the last two years, the meeting and events industry has grappled with the shared trauma of the pandemic. Pre-covid, any wellness integration mainly existed in the form of standalone activations, booths, one-off experiences, and morning physical wellness activities.

“What we are seeing now, is that attendees are craving not only balance, but peace of mind, and a sense of assurance that when they do decide to meet in person, who they are at their core – their fundamental well-being will be a primary consideration for how events are designed,” says Nancy Snowden, Manager of Educational Experience, “We have focused so much on hand-sanitizer this last year via cleaning protocols and the like, now, it is time to focus on “mind-sanitizer” and work to cleanse the cognitive experience of attendees of any fear or trepidation. How do we do this? Integrative wellness + event design.”

The Event Wellness Superhero course takes learners from understanding the basic elements of the 8 dimensions of wellness and their relationship to the EIC’s International Standards Strategic Domains—all the way to self-actualization and manifesting a personal wellness philosophy. The program does not engage in the typical lecture-style format of education, but instead, uses a variety of media, activities, and exercises to experiment with wellness and how it can manifest into an experiential aspect of our planning.

Event Wellness Superhero is a 4-hour course and provides 4 clock hours in CMP-IS Strategic Domain A: Strategic Planning or Domain G: Meeting or Event Design.
