Volunteers play a vital role in the success of meetings, events, and associations—but recruiting, motivating, and retaining them can be a challenge. This interactive educational session is designed for meeting planners who rely on volunteers to support events and programs. Attendees will explore proven strategies for attracting the right volunteers, clearly defining roles and expectations, keeping volunteers engaged before, during, and after events, and creating meaningful experiences that encourage long-term commitment. Participants will leave with practical tools, real-world examples, and actionable ideas they can immediately apply to strengthen their volunteer teams and improve overall event outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify effective strategies for recruiting volunteers whose skills and interests align with event and organizational needs.
  2. Develop clear role descriptions, communication plans, and onboarding processes that set volunteers up for success.
  3. Apply engagement and recognition techniques that increase volunteer satisfaction, performance, and retention.
  4. Evaluate volunteer programs and implement improvements that enhance efficiency and support successful meetings and events.
This session has been submitted to the EIC for 1.0 Clock Hour.
