I have always thrived when surrounded by people who are passionate for a cause, profession or industry. So, throughout my career, in an effort to fuel my personal “fire” and career passion, I have joined a variety of different associations that have positively impacted me in a number of different ways. Each of them presented me with opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals who provided invaluable experiences and mentoring to help pave the way for me both professionally and personally.
By being a part of an association, I was able to utilize the tools and networks that helped me progress in my career. During my time at MPI, I’ve often heard the refrain from high-achieving members that “if it wasn’t for MPI, I wouldn’t be where I am at today,” as they successfully leveraged the assets and resources that benefit our community of professionals worldwide to their benefit. Our MPI community bonds together as they advocate for our industry and their peers and they share their challenges and triumphs among one another, while preparing for future growth. And members of our community are immediately at a competitive advantage when they become active and informed within our industry.
Oprah Winfrey said it best about building strong communities: “Surround yourself with those who only lift you higher.”
Investing in an association that provides strong community, while carving the path for your future both professionally and personally, is an investment in yourself. However, that investment can only be realized when you take full advantage of all the benefits offered.
A great example of those benefits is seen through the MPI Academy, which continues to develop curriculum, skills and knowledge that enable you to truly “future proof” your career. For example, next month, through our Experiential Event Series, select members will be able to go behind the scenes at the Country Music Awards and see firsthand how one of the biggest events in our industry is designed from implementation to “showtime.” And our in-depth selection of webinars, certification courses and education at chapter events, the World Education Congress, the European Meetings & Events Conference and IMEX offer learnings that keep you constantly ahead of the industry.
Like many of our members, I can honestly say that “I am where I am today because of the experiences and community that surrounded me and the knowledge that I have gained through associations.” It’s worth the investment!
