What’s a moment during an event you planned that reminded you why you love this industry?
Overall the connections really motivate me. There is something about seeing attendees embrace each other after not seeing each other since maybe the last event we hosted or reconnecting after years. Providing the opportunity for people to reconnect with old friends and colleagues and make new connections makes the planning process worth it.
If your event planning style were a cocktail, what would it be, and what is the secret ingredient?
My event planning style cocktail would be something smooth but exhilarating like a Hugo Spritz. My secret ingredient is planning for comfort and familiarity but adding a twist here and there like the mint component in the Spritz. Leaves you anticipating the next event before you finish the first sip!
If you weren’t in the meetings and events world, what career path might you have taken and why?
I would probably work as an artist and host community classes. I love to paint with watercolor and find so much joy in bringing an idea I have in my head to life. Art is so expressive, and I believe everyone can and should create. That or a wedding singer, my stage fright holds me back from the spotlight!
What is a book, podcast, or TV show that you would recommend to others right now?
Find Your Why by Simon Sinek. This interactive book dives into identifying your individual purpose and the root of why you do what you do. I have learned so much about myself during the process and would recommend to anyone that wants to put their purpose into words. I will be going through this book with our next leadership program cohort and I am very excited to being a part of their journey of discovering their why.
What’s a destination that surprised you with its potential for hosting unforgettable events?
Honestly, Indiana! I grew up here and had a limited view on the potential of the state. When I moved back as an adult, I was skeptical of what Indiana could offer after event planning in Dallas the last 5 years. I have been pleasantly surprised by the Indiana venues and planning out here has made me appreciate the beauty of the state so much more.
What’s your fantasy event project — the one that would make you say, ‘I can’t believe I get to do this!’?
I’d love to plan a celebrity wedding. Something over the top and extravagant. A no budget wedding would be an absolute dream to plan!
