The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became law 32 years ago, but many barriers persist for the disability community. This highly interactive session will focus on two questions:

  • How can we be more intentional about designing events and spaces that include people of all abilities?
  • How do we move toward the power in asking for help?

Participants will learn about the difference between accessibility and universal design, and explore ways to promote inclusion through changes in environment and attitude.

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Develop an awareness of, and solutions to, the barriers that may be in place at events for members of the disability community in order to create more inclusive meetings and events.
  2. Identify the difference between accessibility and Universal Design
  3. Create ways for attendees to ask for the help they need in order to maximize their participation in the meeting or event.
Schedule:
  • 12:00-12:30     Registration and Networking
  • 12:30-1:30       Lunch
