New York-based photographer Steven Visneau said something that should be music to the ears of event pros converging on San Antonio for WEC 2026: “Person to person is everything to me.” Visneau is on hand with us this week taking portraits of attendees at the headshot station (10 a.m.-5 p.m., June 3; 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., June 4), sponsored by Destination Waco.
We spoke with Visneau about completing the human circle through face-to-face interactions and why a headshot should be more than a headshot.

What impact has so much in-person interaction had on you and your career?
For the obvious reasons in photography, you need to be with that person to photograph them, but beyond that the human connection can only be conveyed at its core when it’s face to face. I love technology as much as the next person, yet I still value an old fashion getting-to-know-you conversation above all else. Intention can truly be felt when you look a person in the eyes, say or show how you feel then watch or hear the response. It completes the human circle.
Can you tell us about an event-related photography experience that left an impression on you?
I shot a SWSX Vimeo event a few years back. One of the subjects Vimeo wanted me to photograph was Danny Devito. I made a portrait of him along with members of his family. It was a wonderful experience; he was a super-friendly person as well!

What do you hope WEC attendees will take away from their portrait experience?
Hopefully they will get to know me, the process and the emotion a simple headshot can evoke. I will guide them through the step-by-step equation of what I’d like to create, then hopefully they will have a better understanding of how important photography and the human connection is! Can’t wait to meet my subjects!
