Meet Carrie Donahue, CMP (MPI Potomac Chapter), senior associate, events and meetings at KPMG, recognized as MPI’s Volunteer of the Month for May 2026.

How did you get started with MPI?

I became an MPI member while I worked as a meetings coordinator for an association in Washington, D.C.

What’s your history of volunteering with MPI?

In the early years of my membership, I joined the MPI Potomac Chapter and served as a committee member for several years, before becoming a board director. Over the last few years, I have served as a member of the Chapter & Membership Advisory Council, the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee and the Sustainability Advisory Council. 

What’s one of your favorite aspects of the MPI community?

The strong connection among peers. Regardless of our different roles within the industry, we share a common purpose allowing us to knowledge share, support one another and celebrate our achievements.

What, if anything, would you like to see (or see more of) when it comes to the MPI community?

I would love to see a greater integration of sustainable practices at the chapter level. We’ve made great strides globally, but providing more localized resources to chapters could help us all prioritize the planning of greener programs.

I would also like to see the continued expansion of mentorship programs. Connecting seasoned professionals with those just entering the industry is vital for bringing fresh, diverse voices into leadership roles.

What is one thing the meeting and event industry needs right now?

More grace and adaptability. As budgets tighten, attendee expectations shift and learning how AI will reshape our industry, planners and suppliers need to continue to work together as partners, to focus on creative solutions that deliver high impact without compromising quality and human experience.
