Cracking the LinkedIn algorithm: 3 tips to increase your reach in the meeting industry

The realm of LinkedIn can seem like a labyrinth for professionals in the meeting and event industry. With the platform constantly evolving, understanding how to maximize your reach and engagement is crucial.

By Leanne Calderwood

The realm of LinkedIn can seem like a labyrinth for professionals in the meeting and event industry. With the platform constantly evolving, understanding how to maximize your reach and engagement is crucial.

Here, we’ll explore three key strategies to help you navigate LinkedIn’s algorithm, ensuring your content resonates with the right audience.

1. Tailor your content to your audience’s interests

The key to any successful LinkedIn strategy is content that speaks directly to your audience. As a meeting partner, your content should revolve around the unique challenges and interests of the industry and its professionals. Share insights on emerging trends, innovative event planning strategies or successful client programs. The key here is relevance; your content should be a resource that your peers find valuable and engaging.

Since LinkedIn’s algorithm favors content that gains interaction quickly, consider the timing of your posts. Posting when your audience is most active (typically business hours on weekdays) can increase your visibility.

2. Foster genuine engagement

LinkedIn prioritizes content that sparks conversations and interactions. Start by engaging with others’ posts in your industry. Leave thoughtful comments and share posts with your insights (consider starting with the content that MPI publishes on their LinkedIn Company Page!)  This not only increases your visibility but also encourages others to engage with your content.

When posting, ask open-ended questions or seek opinions to encourage dialogue. On LinkedIn, quality always trumps quantity; a few meaningful interactions are more valuable than numerous superficial ones. Responding promptly to comments on your posts also boosts engagement, signaling to the algorithm that your content is fostering a community.

3. Leverage the power of LinkedIn articles and videos

While regular posts are essential, diversifying your content with LinkedIn articles and videos can significantly increase your reach. Articles allow for in-depth exploration of topics, demonstrating your expertise and thought leadership. This long-form content often gains traction, attracting views over an extended period.

Videos, on the other hand, are excellent for capturing immediate attention. They provide a personal touch, making your content more relatable and engaging. Whether it’s a quick tip, event highlight or interview with an industry leader, videos can greatly enhance your LinkedIn presence. The algorithm is loving video content coming out of 2023 and heading into 2024!

Navigating LinkedIn’s algorithm isn’t just about understanding the technicalities; it’s about creating value-driven, engaging content tailored to your audience. By focusing on audience-centric content, fostering genuine engagement and utilizing various content formats, you can significantly increase your reach in the meeting and event industry.

To your success.
