EMEC Luxembourg

EMEC host Luxembourg: Events that combine work and pleasure

EMEC exemplifies MPI’s brand promise in Europe; it brings our global meeting and event community together to focus on topics that matter most to European professionals, all while advancing new ideas and building lasting partnerships.

By Blair Potter

“Luxembourg is a destination where you can easily combine work—thanks to the very good infrastructure for meetings and conferences—and pleasure, with the variety of activities that the destination offers,” says Savéria Eyer, back office manager for Business Events Luxembourg - Luxembourg Convention Bureau and a member of the host committee for MPI’s European Meetings & Events Conference (EMEC), March 3-5 in Luxembourg. “It is a sustainable and green destination—you can make your event green thanks to the Green Business Events logo that is now in place since last year in Luxembourg through the Green Business Events Project.”

Attila Laszlo, sales manager for Mondorf Parc Hotel & Spa - Mondorf Domaine Thermal Luxembourg and an EMEC host committee member, says Luxembourg has a rich history yet is not a well-known destination for many, located in the heart of Europe with daily flights connecting to 35 European cities (along with a direct high-speed train connection to Paris) and offers impressive historic and contemporary architecture, abundant natural beauty, free public transportation and multilingual people.

EMEC exemplifies MPI’s brand promise in Europe; it brings our global meeting and event community together to focus on topics that matter most to European professionals, all while advancing new ideas and building lasting partnerships. Learn much from some of our speakers, who will be sharing insights about overcoming “delegate fatigue,” bridging divides through open conversations, connecting attendees through song, success through storytelling and finding the balance between “yes” and “no.”

In total, 90 destinations are directly accessible by air from Luxembourg, including a new direct connection with China. And once you’ve arrived, you can experience the entirety of this compact but fascinating country in no more than one week’s time.

But don’t let Luxembourg’s size fool you, as it offers a plethora of dedicated meeting and event facilities, including the European Convention Center Luxembourg (ECCL), which is hosting EMEC 2024. The ECCL, in the Kirchberg business district, offers two large plenary rooms with a maximum capacity of 800 people as well as an amphitheater with 646 seats, 11 meeting rooms that can accommodate 35 to 380 people, 30 briefing rooms, four bars and more than 3,500 square meters (nearly square feet).

ECCL is the centerpiece of Convention Park Luxembourg, a complex that brings together virtually everything you’ll need for an event within a five-minute walk: hotels (785 rooms), restaurants and bars, a shopping center, conference and evening venues and two cultural centers of international standing—Philharmonie and the Museum of Modern Art (MUDAM).

Other siginificant event venues include Luxexpo the Box, featuring a 6,400-square-meter/70,000-square-foot exhibition hall in Kirchberg; Alvisse Parc Hotel, featuring 325 bedrooms and meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 1,500 people in a quiet corner of Luxembourg City next to a forest; DoubleTree by Hilton, featuring 345 bedrooms and 16 meeting spaces (and even a grand ballroom) and located in a peaceful tree-lined street on the outskirts of Luxembourg City; and Mondorf Domaine Thermal, a hotel with 15 meeting rooms and pristine outdoor areas that can accommodate gatherings of up to 400 people.

Conference hotels are a key component of Luxembourg’s success as a meeting and event destination, and variety of new hotels will debut in 2024-2025, making the country an even more viable option for meeting planners. New additions include Moxy Luxembourg Airport with 130 bedrooms; Luxembourg Marriott Hotel Alfa in Luxembourg City with 153 bedrooms; Cloche d’Or - Luxembourg City, a B&B with 150 bedrooms; The Butler Bertrange in Luxembourg City with 167 bedrooms; GridX in Wickrange (close to Luxembourg City) with large event spaces and 130 bedrooms; and Anatura in Weiswampach (in northern Luxembourg) with 70 bedrooms and 100 cottages. Several of Luxebourg’s popular conference hotels are part of the Accor family, and four of their hotels are MPI EMEC hotel partners. Filippo Bicego, cluster director of sales for Accor, says it’s important to emphasize Luxembourg’s status as a financial hub, cultural and historical appeal, political stability, international community, high quality of life and focus on social and environmental responsibilities.

“These factors collectively make Luxembourg a perfect choice for hosting a wide range of events, from business meetings to large conferences,” he says. “Luxembourg is known for its safety, culinary delights and efficient public transport as well. These elements collectively contribute to a unique and positive experience for visitors.” (Read much more about MPI EMEC partner hotels.)

Unique venues in Luxembourg range from wine cellars to castles to breweries, and the wide range of activities includes a visit to Grand Ducal Palace in the summer, a walking gastronomy tour of Luxembourg City, nautical sports and boats tours in Moselle, classical concerts at Philharmonie Luxembourg and biking and hiking on dedicated routes.

Laszlo says that although in-person events are back, they are more regional and European than international at the moment. Other recent trends he has observed are a real need for training and team building due to remote working, more well-being combined with meetings and more requests for green and sustainable meetings.
