A Forrest Gump impersonator greets guests to a Low Country boil, posing for photos and setting a fun and welcoming tone to launch Exterro’s Annual Sales Kick-Off Meeting 2025, according to Kristin Detwiler, CMP, DMCP (MPI Georgia Chapter), owner and COO of Savannah Destination Management LLC.
"We also included a 360-degree photo booth complete with props, which quickly became a hit and provided a playful way for attendees to inter-act and capture lasting memories," she says.
Detwiler’s team focused on creating immersive, memorable experiences that encouraged participation and connection in order to drive attendee engagement during the sales kick-off meeting which convened approximately 185 employees from across the globe for the annual meeting designed to foster networking, empowerment and alignment.
During the Georgia Queen riverboat-based closing night function, attendees enjoyed a speakeasy-themed evening with a casino, live jazz music and entertainment.
"This gave everyone space to roam, play and fully immerse themselves in the experience," says Cristie Nickel, corporate events manager for Ex-terro, a software provider that empowers organizations to manage data risks with its platform for e-discovery, data privacy, cybersecurity and digital forensics. "This final night is always special—it’s when we truly connect, let loose and celebrate together. Dancing as we cruised the river made for unforgettable memories."
For this grand finale, each level of the boat was transformed into a distinct themed experience.
"Deck one featured a lively faux casino with classic games like blackjack, craps and roulette, played with ‘fun money’ and pulsing with energy as a local DJ turned the front half of the space into a dynamic dance club," Detwiler says. "Deck two transformed into a supper club, buzzing with energy. Meanwhile, deck three offered a sophisticated escape—a 1920s-inspired jazz lounge with the sultry sounds of the Folderol jazz band."
Transforming a single venue into three completely different experiences was both a creative challenge and a rewarding accomplishment, according to Detwiler.
"It was a perfect example of how thoughtful design and intentional variety can elevate an experience for everyone involved," she says. "By weaving in local culture, iconic venues and multi-sensory experiences, we created a compelling environment that naturally inspired engagement and participation."

A MISSION-DRIVEN VISION COMES TO LIFE
Nickel says recognizing her team’s role in delivering on Exterro’s mission reinforces a shared commitment and energizes them for the year ahead.
"Through leadership sessions, strategic discussions and team-building activities, we reinforced our company goals and equipped our teams with the tools and motivation needed to drive success in 2025," she says. "Bringing our community together in person is essential for fostering connection, collaboration and recognition. One of the highlights of our event was our awards ceremony, where we celebrated the outstanding achievements of our team. Their dedication and success are what drive Exterro’s mission forward."
One of the biggest challenges in planning the Annual Sales Kick-Off Meeting, Nickel says, is finding unique and exciting locations that provide fresh, memorable experiences for attendees.
"That’s why I collaborate with DMCs to bring our vision to life," she says. "Working with Savannah Destination Management—especially Kristin Detwiler—ensures that every detail is thoughtfully curated. Her deep knowledge of Savannah’s rich history, stunning venues and unique local experiences is invaluable in creating an event that is both engaging and inspiring for our team. By leveraging her expertise, we’re able to deliver an unforgettable experience."
Nickel says she had always wanted to experience the iconic squares draped in moss-covered trees, renowned Southern hospitality and unique charm of Savannah, so having the city as a host destination was a dream come true.
"A huge part of what made this experience so special was our stay at the Hyatt Regency Savannah on the River. Our dedicated team—Allison Palagye, Amanda Gibson, Carla Sparks and the entire Hyatt staff—went above and beyond at every turn," she says. "Their attention to detail, hospitality and commitment to excellence elevated our event in every way."
Meetings in Savannah
Jeff Hewitt, CDME, chief sales officer for Visit Savannah, says that beyond its history, beauty and lush green garden squares, Savannah is an authentic destination with its own vibe that sets it apart from other southern cities. "It’s small enough to be walkable and large enough to provide state-of-the-art facilities and accommodations," he says. "You can experience over 300 restaurants, shops and attractions in one square mile." Meeting planners can also experience the recently expanded Savannah Convention Center, a waterfront facility offering a 200,000-squarefoot exhibit hall, ballrooms of 40,000 square feet and 25,000 square feet, 32 breakout rooms, rooftop and riverfront terraces and a new, 9,000-seat arena.
