As I step into the role of chair of MPI’s International Board of Directors (IBOD), I am filled with a deep sense of responsibility and excitement for what lies ahead. I want to first acknowledge and express my profound gratitude to Michelle Allgauer, who has been an outstanding leader during her tenure as chair. Michelle’s dedication to amplifying the voices of our chapters has made an enduring impact on MPI. She recognized that the heart of MPI lies within our chapters and that many of our most memorable and significant moments as an organization occur at the chapter level. Her leadership in this area has strengthened MPI, and I am committed to building on that strong foundation.
As I look toward the future, my vision for MPI is rooted in growth, inclusivity and education. My top priority as chair will be to continue expanding our global planner community, while ensuring that MPI remains a leader in education and professional development. We must think globally about how we can expand our reach and engage a diverse range of planners, from association and corporate professionals to those who may not yet see themselves reflected in our community.
Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) will continue to be central to MPI’s mission. It’s essential that we foster an inclusive culture that reflects the complexity and diversity of our world. By prioritizing DEI initiatives, we not only enrich the MPI experience for everyone involved but also strengthen our industry. Diverse perspectives make us more innovative, more adaptable and better able to meet the needs of the global marketplace. I am committed to ensuring that MPI continues to be a place where everyone feels welcome and valued, and where all voices are heard.

One of the cornerstones of MPI’s success is the MPI Academy, which plays a critical role in shaping the future of our industry. The Academy provides current and future planners with the tools, skills and resources they need to succeed in an ever-evolving profession. The power of education cannot be overstated, and my goal is to make sure that the MPI Academy continues to thrive and expand its reach. Whether it’s through virtual learning, in-person workshops or innovative new programs, the Academy has the potential to profoundly impact the development of planners around the world. I want to ensure that these opportunities are accessible to everyone, regardless of their geographic location, background or experience level.
The MPI Academy is not just about building skills; it’s about empowering planners to embody our belief that “When we meet, we change the world.” Meetings and events are more than just gatherings; they are opportunities to foster collaboration, drive innovation and create lasting change. We have the unique ability to bring people together in ways that transcend borders and challenges. It is my hope that through the MPI Academy and our collective efforts, we will continue to remind ourselves of the transformative power of meetings and the importance of the work we do.
In addition to education and inclusivity, I am particularly passionate about supporting emerging professionals in our industry. The next generation of leaders will shape the future of meetings and events, and we must provide them with the resources, mentorship and confidence they need to lead. As someone who was introduced to MPI through a series of meaningful encounters with industry leaders, I know firsthand the power of mentorship and the importance of building a strong network of support. MPI has given me a community of mentors, trusted advisors and lifelong friends, and I want to ensure that this same sense of belonging and opportunity is available to all emerging professionals. By investing in them, we are investing in the future of our industry.
As I reflect on my own journey, I am reminded of the profound impact MPI has had on my personal and professional life. What started as a casual conversation at a local chapter event quickly deepened into a lifelong commitment to this organization and the people within it. MPI has taught me that leadership is not about having all the answers, but about fostering an environment where others feel empowered to find solutions. It has shown me the value of collaboration, empathy and lifelong learning, and these principles will guide my approach as chair of the IBOD.
I am also deeply grateful for the experiences I’ve had outside of MPI that have shaped my leadership style. From launching a franchise business to working at Microsoft for a decade, and from serving on boards like Big Brothers Big Sisters to engaging with the Young Professionals Organization, each role has taught me the importance of adaptability, purpose-driven leadership and the power of diverse perspectives. These experiences have prepared me to lead with empathy, vision and a commitment to creating meaningful change.
Looking ahead, I am excited about the opportunities that lie before us. We are at a pivotal moment filled with immense possibilities for growth, innovation and collaboration. The world around us is changing rapidly, and with the right leadership and vision, MPI can continue to thrive. My goal is to work closely with the IBOD, our members and the wider MPI community to unlock our fullest potential and to continue to elevate the meetings and events profession to new heights.
In closing, I want to once again thank Michelle Allgauer for her exceptional leadership and for leaving MPI in such a strong position. I am honored to follow in her footsteps and to build on the incredible work she has done. Together, with the support of our amazing community, I am confident that we can achieve great things. Let’s continue to make an impact—because when we meet, we truly change the world. Thank you for your trust, and I look forward to serving as your chair.
