Steve Moore, Visit Phoenix CEO, to Retire

By Michael Pinchera | Dec 10, 2020

Long-time Visit Phoenix President and CEO Steve Moore has announced plans to retire and step down from that position in March.

While hugely significant, his 19 years with Visit Phoenix makes up less than half of the 45 years he’s spent in the destination marketing industry. Among his most visible achievements in the Valley of the Sun: playing a key role in obtaining $300 million from the Arizona legislature for the city’s new convention center and working with city developers on the 1,000-room Sheraton Phoenix Downtown, both projects that opened in 2009.

He’s also been integral in winning countless other high-profile sporting events, including three NFL Super Bowl bids for the destination as well as multiple NCAA Final Four competitions. Additionally, he co-chaired the 2011 MLB All-Star Host Committee and served on the bid and host committees for the 2009 NBA All-Star Game, 2011 WWE WrestleMania and the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

“I am blessed to have served with a great staff and for the amazing partnerships with the City of Phoenix, its elected officials, civic leaders and the tremendous professionals in the hotel and sports community,” Moore said in a statement. “This retirement has been in the works for some time and I know that Visit Phoenix’s best years are ahead. There is no ceiling too high for this staff to achieve.”

Moore serves on the Executive Committee of Destinations International, the Board of Directors of the U.S. Travel Association, the Executive Committee of the Arizona Lodging & Tourism Association and was a founding board member of the Meetings Mean Business Coalition.

Prior to his lengthy tenure at Visit Phoenix, Moore spent a combined 28 years in top positions at CVBs in both San Antonio and Houston.

If you were somehow uncertain, it should now be exceedingly clear of the important roles Moore has played throughout the meeting and tourism industries over the years. Accordingly, in 2012, Moore was inducted into the Arizona Tourism Hall of Fame.
