Strategies for Excellence—GMID 2021: Virtual Broadcast

By Lori Pugh Marcum CMP, CMM | Apr 7, 2021

This will be my third year producing and co-emceeing the Global Meetings Industry Day: Virtual broadcast. Every year, I look for ways to improve the experience for our attendees, and this year the stakes are even higher. The meeting and event community challenged themselves to learn new tools and strategies for digital events as in-person meetings halted due to the pandemic. Long gone are the days that talking heads with no engagement will satisfy the needs of digital event attendees.

To improve the broadcast, I added to my digital event knowledge by taking the Virtual Event & Meeting Management certificate program that MPI offers in partnership with the Event Leadership Institute. Through the skills that I learned in the program along with exciting new engagement tools and technologies new to the market, the broadcast will be more engaging than ever before.

I also wanted to make sure that I was sourcing the most relevant speakers and content for our industry, so I sent out a research survey to see exactly what the needs were. The survey data was instrumental in putting together an incredible lineup of speakers with content from all areas of the industry with the assistance of other association partners such as the National Coalition of Black Meeting Professionals (NCBMP), Destinations International (DI), IACC, the International Association of Exhibitions & Events (IAEE), the Events Industry Council (EIC) and Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI).

My mission for this year’s broadcast is to build on the success of last year by creating the same atmosphere of community and incredible education, while adding new ways for participants to engage and create new connections. I’m looking forward to connecting with our meeting and event industry family on April 8 and celebrating the recovery with new business and hope on the horizon.
