The Most Valuable Networking Happens Between Sessions

By: MPINJ | Nov 6, 2026

When building a meeting agenda, it’s natural to default your focus to what happens inside each session. Keynotes, workshops, panels, and presentations may form the backbone of an event schedule, but some of the most valuable moments happen when no one is looking at a screen or taking notes.

A thoughtful agenda gives attendees time and space to process what they’ve heard, connect with peers, and continue conversations sparked during the program. Instead of packing the schedule from morning to evening, consider building in meaningful break windows that encourage people to step away, recharge, and engage with one another.

The environment surrounding those breaks is equally important. Expansive pre-function areas with ample soft seating support conversations and collaboration outside of the agenda. Strategically placed snacks and beverages can naturally draw people together, while accessible workspaces and complimentary Wi-Fi allow guests to quickly check in with the office without retreating to their rooms.

That thinking can extend beyond the formal meeting day. Choosing a destination with built-in amenities gives attendees more reasons to remain connected once sessions conclude.

At Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, for example, the all-under-one-roof experience creates countless opportunities for those informal interactions. Full-service restaurants and lounges can turn dinner or a drink into another chance to connect. Spa Kalahari offers space to recharge, while resort entertainment and indoor and outdoor areas give attendees opportunities to explore, unwind, and spend time together without coordinating transportation to another destination.

For planners, these spaces can become an extension of the meeting itself. A conversation that starts during an afternoon break might continue over dinner. Colleagues who meet during a session may get to know one another better while exploring the resort that evening. Those interactions aren’t necessarily on the official agenda, but they can strengthen relationships, spark new ideas, and ultimately contribute to better collaboration when everyone returns to work.

The strongest event agendas leave time allotted for both structure and spontaneity. Because sometimes the conversation attendees remember most is the one that happened between sessions.
