That's a Wrap: Education Events Recap - June 2021

By: Beth Hoffman, CDS | Jun 23, 2021

BethGinaWhat a crazy year it was! Although we were NOT allowed to meet face-to-face during the pandemic, the MPIOC Education team managed to create seven (7) virtual events that proved engaging and enlightening.

September

We hosted a Career Workshop featuring special guest presenters Marcy Morrison (Careers with Wings), Jen Morris (Careerinspo.com) and Nicole Newman (Searchwide). This dynamite trio provided valuable insight on pivoting and refining career searches during a pandemic. Thank you to these brilliant ladies for donating their time! CLICK to watch the Career Development Workshop

October
MPIOC collaborated with chapters from across California for the Golden State Collaborative. Focused on the initiatives and direction implemented by the CEOs of every major city in the state, this highly attended event offered valuable solutions on how California can successfully host events post-pandemic.

November
Once again, we collaborated ─ this time with the MPISD chapter ─ on our annual EdCon. This virtual, half-day event was designed specifically for members to build connections through education, ideas, relationships and marketplaces. Kudos to the MPIOC & MPISD chapters for the continued partnership on this joint event.

January
We kicked the year off with the highly anticipated, State of the Industry, Silver Linings Playbook 2021. Choosing to change things up, we welcomed a fabulous keynote speaker, Bart Berkey, author of Most People Don’t and Why You Should. Bart delivered an optimistic and energizing presentation. Many thanks to Bart for sending us off with tangible nuggets to implement in our daily lives ─ especially during challenging times! Also, special shout out to our amazing sponsors of this event, DJ Lee of Hey Mister DJ who provided fun dance tunes and music trivia at the opening & close of session and Style Gifts who provided free journals (playbooks) to the first twenty-five event registrants.

March
Shifting focus, we brought you content on the important topic of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). An all-female panel, which included Lori Jenaire (ConferenceDirect), Kamia Kinchlow (Balboa Bay Resort), and Pawntra Shadab (Elite Productions International), led the discussion on breaking barriers to entry in the c-suite, HR compliance, and the value of collaborating with “great minds that DON’T think alike.” This session was brought to life with real time examples from each of the panelist and what they have personally faced in the workforce, as it applies to DEI. Keeping us grooving was the amazing DJ Keelez – also a female!  CLICK to listen to the podcast 5 Next Steps for Furthering DEI in Your Organization with Pawntra Shadab.

April
Our final event of the term celebrated Earth Day and shifted to pre-pandemic times with Green Events Can Be Easy. Throughout this session, our speakers provided actionable solutions to getting green meeting initiatives back on track through the entire life cycle of the event, small to large. Thank you to Eric Wallinger (MeetGreen) and Sheila LeMaster (GES) for leading this especially important discussion. Also, in April we also celebrated GMID with MPI Global’s annual 12-hour international simulcast!

Well, that’s a wrap, over & out, and we are looking forward to new and exciting F2F educational events with our new board and all of you this term. It has been a pleasure to serve this amazing chapter!
