MPI is a proud supporter of the Event Industry Council’s Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Program.

The CMP program aims to increase the professionalism of meeting management professionals in all sectors of the industry by:

  • Identifying a comprehensive body of knowledge in the meeting management profession
  • Promoting industry standards, practices, and ethics
  • Stimulating the advancement of the art and science of meeting management
  • Increasing the value of Certified Meeting Professionals to their employers
  • Maximizing the value received from the products and services provided by CMP

Does MPISD offer opportunities to help me earn my CMP?

Yes, the San Diego Chapter provides education programs throughout the year that offer clock hours through face-to-face learning.  We also offer two CMP Study Group per year.  The San Diego MPI Study Group fee is $150 for MPISD Chapter members and $250 for non-members.

Study Group Contacts:

Michelle Schneider, CMP, CMM–   CMP Study Group Committee Chair

How do I track my CIC clock hours?

Please know that clock hours are regulated by the Convention Industry Council not MPI.  For more information on how to calculate your hours according to your situation, please visit their Web site, eventscouncil.org MPI Global offers members the opportunity to track your clock hours by logging into the member portion of mpiweb.org.

To self-report your CEs, you must provide session-level reporting and must attach documentation that you attended each continuing education activity you report. That documentation may include a transcript, certificate of completion, registration confirmation, payment receipt, name badge, on-site program, or course program.

How do I re-certify?

Every five (5) years CMPs are offered the opportunity to re-certify by documenting ongoing involvement in the meetings industry through employment, continuing education and professional contributions. CMPs are sent a reminder during the year in which their current CMP certificate is set to expire. With that notice, CMPs receive information regarding the re-certification process and instructions to access the re-certification application form and guidelines.

Who should I reach out to if I have more questions?

Most questions can be answered directly through the CMP program website.
