SUSTAINABILITY AND MEETINGS

Sustainability has never been more important to the meetings industry. Yet sustainability can be a complicated and confusing topic. In this presentation, we’ll cover a range of topics designed to help meeting planners and tourism industry partners implement sustainability programs that improve participant satisfaction, support clients’ corporate social responsibility goals, and contribute to your destination community’s quality of life.

In this session, we’ll cover big-picture issues and provide practical tips that can be applied to your next meeting.

We’ll cover the following:

  • What is sustainability, and how can meeting planners contribute in a meaningful way to sustainability goals?
  • The Triple Bottom Line (Environment, Society, Economy) and what it means for meetings.
    • Impactful ways to contribute to a better environment.
    • Beyond the environment – positive social impacts of meetings.
    • Making your money work for sustainability.
  • Creating better meetings with sustainability.
  • Lasting legacies and enriching your community through meetings
  • What’s next?  We’ll wrap up the session by examining the emerging trends in sustainability that may influence meetings and tourism.

Shari Montgomery

Founder of The House of Promise

The House of Promise is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides survivors of sex abuse and sex trafficking unconditional love, acceptance, and a place to heal. Our goal is to disrupt the destructive patterns of slavery through education and care for the survivors. We do this through training, counseling, and helping the young girls/women relearn basic skills, so that they can rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.

Human trafficking is a major issue in the world, with not enough being done to fight it or help its victims. With statistics at 1 in 3 women being sexually abused in their lifetime, the work that we do is incredibly important.
