“After graduating from the Events Management program at Algonquin College, I knew I wanted to be involved in the Ottawa events world and more specifically, MPI. Networking opportunities, professional development and just meeting event professionals was what I was looking for. I joined the Marketing Committee (formerly Publications) pretty much when I joined and have been on this Committee now for two years. This was my first introduction into MPI and have loved it ever since.

Knowing that I wanted to be more involved in MPI and to learn more about professional development, I joined the Student Liaison Subcommittee (Member Care Committee), the Education Programs Committee and Charity Auction (Signature Events Committee). I love giving back, making new connections and learning from other industry leaders. MPI has really shown me how dedicated and passionate their volunteers are and how we make a difference within the Ottawa community. I will value the friendships and the wealth of knowledge that I have received and will continue to benefit by volunteering with MPI.

"One of the best pieces of professional advice I ever received was to volunteer with MPI. I began volunteering by helping to plan and execute the annual MPI Prix Prestige Awards Gala. I spent three years as a committee member, before stepping into the role of Committee Chair for the 2018 Gala. In addition, I am responsible for the Chapter’s Conventus Insider Events articles, featuring exceptional events planned by our members.

Being a volunteer with MPI has been rewarding. I have had the opportunity to work with other industry professionals, while expanding my skill set and professional network. Plus, I’ve been able to give back to the MPI Ottawa community, by being able to recognize members’ achievements and contributions to the industry. I’m so thankful that I listened to that advice!"

"I have been volunteering with MPI Ottawa Chapter since last century! It is a great way to learn new skills, meet new members and mentor other people. I am always proud to see the final result of my writing and editing work when it is published. For the last four years, we have shared our articles worldwide via Conventus on the Chapter website. But I also have an archive of old hard copy newsletters that I treasure. Spotting trends, researching, interviewing experts and compiling the results in an article that can be shared with the entire meetings industry fills a part of my soul  like nothing else can. I am very thankful to be a volunteer."

"Volunteering for MPI Ottawa has been, and continues to be an extremely rewarding experience for me. I live in Calgary so it’s challenging for me to attend as many chapter events as I would like, however this has not prevented me from maintaining my active member status in the MPI community. Given the nature of my long distance membership, the MPI Ottawa Chapter provided me with the opportunities to act as Social Media Co-Chair with the Marketing Committee and recently becoming involved with the Signature Events Committee planning next year’s Charity Auction. These roles have given me the ability to contribute ideas, broaden my knowledge of Chapter events, and gain exposure for Meetings + Conventions Calgary. It has also provided the opportunity to meet some amazing individuals who also share my passion for our industry. More importantly, this volunteering experience has allowed me to truly appreciate the work that MPI International and MPI Ottawa do to ensure our organization remains in the forefront of our communities and with our local government agencies. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the growth of our industry and the Ottawa community by volunteering my time with the MPI Ottawa Mhapter, regardless of where I reside!"
