• Tell us a bit about yourself

I love learning new things and most recently learned to knit.  I am a born organizer, and nothing gives me more joy than place cards all lined up in alphabetical order.  I love to snowmobile, hang with my dog and watch reality TV.  I also share a love of puzzles with fellow MPI members.  

• How did you join the industry? Was it a straight or a more circuitous route?

I started my career as an accountant and when I was with the AIDS Committee of Ottawa, I added the role of fundraising which led to planning my first event – a gala on the stage of the National Arts Centre (NAC) called The Stage for AIDS.  From that time on, I was hooked on the meeting and event industry.  After 25 years as a planner, I brought my planner skills to the supplier side of our industry and began working with DMO’s.  Tourism Saskatoon was an amazing place to begin – working alongside Candace to help grow awareness of that amazing city.  Through my work with Cities in Sync, I now have the privilege to work with Paul and our amazing team at Destination St. John’s.

• What is your favourite industry app?

SendSites - This is an amazing bid site app that makes it easy to present a creative and informative offer to host your event in our city.

Inspiration

• What are you currently reading or would recommend reading?

I am a huge fan of audible and can’t wait to mow the lawn or drive somewhere so I can continue “reading”. My current favourite book is the Doomsday series.

Professional

• What is the best giveaway item you’ve ever received at a conference/event?

A Swell bottle. I just love the luxury feeling I get when I take a sip.  Makes me want to stay hydrated.

Personal

• Do you collect anything?

I collect a few things but most notably old tin containers and wool. Every knitter is guilty of a wool stash.

Networking

• What is your favourite industry event?

Destination Direct is my favourite industry event.  As a supplier I host clients in 15 minutes meetings where we get to know each other and save the salesy conversations to our next meeting. It’s a slam dunk for me!
