Why MPI Ottawa?

I joined Edmonton Tourism in September 2016 as a Business Development Account Manager focusing on the Ottawa Market. With any new role as you begin to understand your responsibilities you look to find ways for how you are going to succeed and make an impact, and joining this chapter was an obvious next step. I joined the MPI Ottawa Chapter my first week in the role – from the beginning I knew that this is where my community would be, where I would be able to learn, contribute and be part of this industry and share its successes.

I continue to renew my membership each year, as the value of it is priceless.  The Chapter members are welcoming and more than willing to be mentors, together helping each other grow in our careers.  Last year I completed my CMP and having access to the great chapter resources to assist in studying, including being able to reach out to members that have recently attained their CMP for guidance, was extremely helpful.

I am based in Edmonton and even though the chapter is in Ottawa I am able to participate in many of the Education and Networking events as well as volunteer remotely on various committees.  I would encourage any of you that may live outside of the Ottawa area to consider joining this chapter.

Benefits of Membership

The meetings and tourism industry has been so affected by COVID-19 but we are still looking ahead to meetings in the future and I have the relationships I’ve made through MPI to help.  The weekly MPI Coffee Talk has been a highlight of my self-isolated week, where I can “see” my peers and talk about what we as suppliers and they as planners are facing at this time.

Moving forward I will continue to be part of the chapter as it is my community and would like to be as involved as I can be to keep the chapter thriving and so that others can enjoy the benefits that I have from this amazing organization.
