Dave Wilk is not only a new member to our MPI Ottawa chapter, but he is also new to his role as Manager, Business Development National East for Discover Saskatoon. While he lives in Kitchener, he appreciates all that Saskatoon has to offer!  Wilk shared with me that what might be surprising to some is that Saskatoon has all the 5-star amenities one would expect any major Canadian city to have and is also a great place to host any event, large or small! It is thoughtfully built along the South Saskatchewan River making for a great city and nature feel that you don’t get in many other cities in Canada.

First events? Wilk’s most recent work background was in SaaS and sales, but before that he also worked in the event industry working with hundreds of weddings and corporate events each year. Don’t tell his family (shhh..) but when he was younger, his first events were hosting house parties and bands in his parents’ basement!

Outside of work: Wilk loves to spend time with his young family (kids aged 4 and 5!) and (fun fact), he is an avid surfer! He caught the surfing bug from living in Australia. He assured me that you don’t’ need an ocean to surf, one can do so on a Great Lake! He also is a travel enthusiast and has visited over 30 countries.

Top tips: Wilk’s top tip for keeping organized is to use your calendar. His top tip as a supplier is to ask the right questions and to not make assumptions about what is important to someone.

Three words: when asked, what three words describe you – Wilk’s answer: “Strategic – Collaborative – Driven!”

Wilk will be travelling to the theEVENT in September, so be sure to say “hi” to new member Dave in Fredericton!
