Meet new MPI Ottawa Chapter member Morgan Berson!

The Intro: Morgan Berson is a Marketing and Events Coordinator for the Canadian Museum of Nature and he wears many hats, from planning galas to coordinating themed talks and gallery openings. A mysterious secret that Berson shared about the Museum is that with a building over 100 years old his colleagues have felt the presence of ghosts! Berson invites other planners to host their events at the Museum because where else can you eat a fancy meal with life-size dinosaurs hovering over you! (It is very cool and centrally located!)
Early Inspiration: Berson became interested in events in high school when we he was at a leadership event. One of the speakers spoke to the power of treating one’s event guests like VIPs. Everyone is royalty. This speaker sparked a passion for Berson to create meaningful experiences and to make every guest feel special.
First events? Berson said it started in preschool. As a Type A child, he stepped up and set up Shabbat for everyone on Friday afternoon, saying the prayer, eating some challah, and passing around the grape juice! In high school, Berson continued by being involved in student council and while not the President, he was known as the “President of Events”!
Never Have I Ever: As a millennial, Berson admits that despite how iconic these shows are, he has never seen a complete episode of Friends, Seinfeld or Fraser!
Outside of work: Berson likes to unwind by baking, reading, painting, and crafting. Agent Berson - a quirky pastime/secret skill is that he researches apartment and house listings (and not because he wants to move!). He does it to see what is out there and to help friends out (lucky friends!).
Killer keynote? Bill or Beyonce? Unsurprisingly (since he works at a nature museum), Berson would love to book Bill Nye the Science Guy! Berson on Bill: “I just feel like he makes science communication so much fun. I grew up watching him and he's so engaging and like a big kid”. A close second choice is of course, Beyoncé.
Top tip: Berson’s top tip for event organizers is to “learn how to be adaptable. Being adaptable means becoming a master of chaos. No matter how organized you are in the events industry, something will always go off script. The trick is to stay calm, think ahead and have at least two backup solutions for every problem or potential problem.”
Three words: when asked, what words describe you - Berson’s answer was: “creative, curious and adaptable. I love exploring new ideas and finding unique solutions.”
If you are curious to learn more, be sure to say “hi” to new member Morgan at a future MPI event!
