Events in Summer 2022

MPI Gala-64

By: MPISSN | Sep 26, 2022

A look back on our events and meetings of Summer, 2022 for the MPI Sacramento/Sierra Nevada Chapter.

Before heading off to MPI's WEC 2022 in San Francisco, the Sacramento/Sierra Nevada chapter of Meeting Professional's International met at The Club at Natomas Park on June, 16th for their Annual Board Installation and Awards; an Elegant Garden Gala. The following awards were distributed for the 2021-2022 year.

Our Planner of the Year has been in the industry for over 20 years working with various associations in the Sacramento region and is the Executive Director of the State Association of County Retirement Systems.  She manages all events, edits publications, implements the associations strategic plans and oversees their day-to-day business operations.  In addition to her day job, she has taken on the huge task of being our MPISSN President this past year.  As president, she has demonstrated leadership, resiliency, passion, and collaboration. Our Planner of the Year was awarded to Sulema Peterson.

MPISSN had two nominees that were both very deserving although in different ways for Supplier of the Year.  After much deliberation with our Awards & Recognition committee, we decided that we had an opportunity to recognize both of these individuals.

First, an individual who is relatively new to MPI – 5 years, but has used this time to make an indelible mark on the MPISSN chapter.  He has been in the event industry for over 15 years, having started with the Capitol Event Center in 2015, first as an Event Manager and then promoted to Events Director in 2018.  He joined the Board of MPISSN in 2021 as Director of Membership.  He brings creative ideas to the table and is always looking for opportunities for collaboration.  In addition to our chapter, he also volunteers with MPI Global on their DEI initiatives.  MPISSN recognizes the Supplier of the Year award to Marques Davison.

Our second honoree for Supplier of the Year is someone who we all know and has been a member of our chapter for over 2 decades.  She has many years in the hotel industry and has spent much of her career with the beautiful Lake Tahoe Resort.  She is clearly committed to our chapter by traveling far to attend our events.  She has volunteered on various committees, been a board member, spoke at education events and participated in our tradeshows.  She is also the first to volunteer with donations, attend events and truly cares about the meeting and event industry as a whole.  MPISSN is thrilled to recognize the second Supplier of the Year award to Kris Keesling!

MPISSN also recognized a Chapter Leader of the Year.  This is someone that has been a member for 21 years and has taken a very active role within the chapter.  We all know her from her friendly face at various industry events as the representative for the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau.  She is the first to make sure everyone at our events are greeted with a warm welcome and an advocate for membership.  She has dedicated countless hours as a volunteer on committees, on the board and currently as our incoming president.  She is a true leader of our chapter.  Please celebrate MPISSN's Chapter Leader of the Year, Lauren Siring.

Like many of our families, MPISSN went 'back to school' at a Meeting Planner Boot Camp and Educational Luncheon on Contracts in September, 2022.  A packed house-and packed with information, MPISSN chapter members were eager to return to in-person events.  We're starting to 'bounce back to the future!"

Looking to connect beyond CONNECTS? Be sure to join the MPISSN chapter on October 12th at Zocalo's in Midtown for Coffee, Cocktails and Content.  Don't forget to bring your meeting planner 'horror story' as we swap scary stories this spooky season!
