October 24, 2018 Meeting Recap

Diversity & Inclusion in the Meeting Planning Industry, presented by Preethi Fernando, provided attendees with ideas and skills to relate with people of different backgrounds in a positive and thoughtful way.

Diversity in the workplace within the meeting industry is increasing each day. Issues and challenges are presented based on diversity of age, ethnic background, gender and sexual identity, religion, disability and more. Meeting planners need to take into account the needs of each attendee effectively. Fernando's presentation provided practical skills in teamwork, cultural competence and thinking outside the box.

The seven characteristics of a culturally enlightened person were shared and discussed, and the audience was engaged in a group role play that demonstrated the concerns of a diverse workplace in a fun and engaging way.

Our host for the event was the Saint Louis Zoo and guests enjoyed a delicious meal at the River Camp private event space. Thanks to our presenter and the Saint Louis Zoo for a great event!
