What being a MPI Georgia member means to me...

I have enjoyed being a member of MPI Georgia over the years. It truly has afforded me growth opportunities that I would not otherwise have had. While I love working in “Corporate America,” you can sometimes become defined by your positions and not be allowed to develop and grow beyond it. Looking back over my tenure with MPI Georgia, I have had several roles. Most of the positions were with Strategic Events. I enjoy taking a theme or vision and creating an experience around it. Being in those roles and leading committees and projects provided me with the skillsets and capabilities that ultimately led to several promotions within my company. As a result, I know that MPI Georgia played an instrumental role in my career growth.

However, my favorite part of being a member of MPI Georgia is the people engagement. I love connecting with other industry professionals, learning about different areas of the hospitality industry, and mentoring people. You can often find me at the Educational Sessions and Networking Events, looking for new people to meet, engage and connect with. That is my passion.

Assisting someone in making connections with people and/or a committee will allow them to get involved and provide the experience they want to further their career. My Pastor often asks his team: “Who Is Following You?”  He says that “leaders influence the direction of others. People look at what you do, how you do and where you are going. If you are not impacting your team or the people you are with, then you are not leading. You are just out taking a walk”. I love this!! I am mindful of this daily at work with my team or in any leadership capacity. I guess you could say that is my leadership style. In every conversation and every interaction, I focus on how I direct, coach, and empower people to achieve their goals and be their “best” selves.

This is the leadership style that I hope to bring to my role as Director of Community Inclusion. I am so excited to be a part of this new committee. The Community Inclusion committee will focus on creating programs, engagement, connections, and education opportunities that align and support MPI Georgia’s commitment to providing an environment where everyone has an opportunity to connect, learn, and thrive.

I love being a member of MPI Georgia and am looking forward to another amazing year!
