Welcome Message from President Keri Miller

Businessman Lakshmi Mittal once said, "Everyone experiences tough times; it is a measure of your determination and dedication how you deal with them and how you can come through them,” and boy is that ever true.

Our industry. Our world. Our members. Our partners. Our city. Our members – yes, I am saying that twice. More than ever, we need to support one another as industry professionals, peers and as friends. If there is one thing that the past few months has taught us, it is to lean on each other. Our members are so strong!

When I joined the Chicago Area Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) eight years ago, I was beginning my journey. I watched my mentors share their time and talent with MPI, attending events, participating in committees and growing their relationships with other industry professionals.

So, I did what I knew best – I jumped in headfirst, attending events, joining committees and participating as a leader. I started to get to know people, develop relationships and over time those people became colleagues, clients and friends. 

As I begin my term as the chapter president, I am thankful for all the organization has shared with me. Being an MPI volunteer for the past eight years has made me stronger and more connected than I had ever imagined. 

As members, you are investing in one of the largest, most active MPI chapters.  To find the best return on your involvement, I encourage you to get involved or engage in a new way. Attend events, participate in programs and join committees.

MPI is a great place to stretch yourself, develop new skills or get to know another side of the industry that you haven’t experienced previously. Sharing your talent and a little bit of your time is worth the long-term benefit of truly connecting and growing as a member.  

In the coming year, we will meet – virtually and in-person. We will create innovative ways to do things differently as professionals and as an organization.  We’ll start new conversations. We’ll embrace and foster an inclusive business climate of respect for all people. And we will stay true to our core, creating powerful connections and meaningful education for members.
