Get to Know the Board of Directors - President Keri Miller!

By: Erika Johnson, Chicago History Museum | Aug 4, 2020

MillerWant to get to know your Board of Directors a little better? We are starting a new series to do just that! First up is President Keri Miller (Hornblower Cruises and Events)!

1. How long have you been with MPI-CAC?

I joined MPI in the summer of 2012.

2. What committees, if any, were you on before joining the Board?

I got involved in a committee right away, two in fact.   I’ve always enjoyed getting to know new people and helping to facilitate connections in the chapter.   So right away, I signed up for the membership recruitment committee.   We were a small but mighty team.

After attending my first trivia night, I completed the survey and checked the box to assist in planning the 2nd annual Trivia night event.  I still remember the follow-up call received that I from the co-chair at the time, who has now become not only an industry colleague, but also friend.   For the first year in the chapter, I volunteered with both groups.   I learned a lot, met a lot of new people and had a ton of fun!

About six months in, one of the Membership Committee co-chairs took a job outside of Chicago and I was asked by one of the board members to step into the co-chair role.   At that time, I decided to direct my energy to just one area.   From that time on, I focused mostly on membership, moving later into the Director and VP roles.

3. What is your role on the Board?

I currently serve as the Chapter President.

4. What is one goal for MPI-CAC you have in your position this year?

Selecting just one goal is difficult.   As a leader and a member of the board, our #1 goal is to support our members.   In today’s climate, things will look and feel different, we will have to listen and learn together and want to hear from our members on their changing needs.   As a chapter, we will continue to focus on providing quality education and meaningful connection.

5. What do you like to do when you are not working?

Right now, a lot of walks through the neighborhood.  I love exploring new neighborhoods around me.   Spending time with friends and family when I can.  😊    I joined a new wine club from a local shop in Chicago.    I love trying local breweries too!
