Instagram in Meetings

By: Soraya Herbert, DAHLIA+ | Apr 18, 2017

A picture is worth a thousand words…

Using Instagram in meetings is a great way to encourage networking, soliciting feedback and creating a buzz around the meeting.

Instagram is a powerful tool to visually attract potential attendees to come to your next event, but it only works if you know how to use it. From the planning stage, to the execution, to after the event; the way you use Instagram can make or break your next event.

  1. Create a unique and official hashtag.
    • Using an official hashtag on your posts lets potential attendees learn more about your event, check out every piece of related content, and participate in conversations and reminiscence on the experience post-event.
    • Hashtag’s are a searchable term on any platform which you can use to gather data about the event.

  2. Stay consistent to build exitment.
    • The only way to keep your followers and keep up engagement is to post frequently. There is a fine line between annoying and radio silence. You don’t want to have an account that is inactive for 6 months, active for 2 months and then dead again. You have to find the best speed for your account and your audience and great tool is creating a social media calendar.

  3. Use picture to tell a story.
    • Thanks to Instagram’s new update you can share more than one photo at time. Keep your account ascetically pleasing by using high-quality visuals. Whatever image you post on Instagram, make sure it looks great and grabs attention.
    • You don’t have to be a professional photographer to take, Instagram-ready shots.
    • Use the pictures to your advantage! Keep your posts audience-centric instead of making it all about you. Post content that potential attendees can relate to.

  4. K.I.S.S "Keep it Simple Social Media"
    • To go along with your stunning photos, you need punchy captions to seal the deal. The beauty of Instagram is that lets you have over 2,000 characters for your captions. Which is prime real estate for you to come up with something catchy!

  5. Don't forget the video.
    • Photos may be the primary content shared on Instagram, but with the addition of Instagram Live, videos are making their mark.
    • When using video in event promotion, keep your videos authentic. Just don’t go overboard with the editing.

After your event is just as important as before your event. Celebrate your press mentions and ask for feedback. Just because your event is over doesn’t mean the online conversation is. Use analytics to see what you rocked and what you can change for next time.

Instagram is a powerful tool, but remember that with power comes great responsibility.
