*What inspired you to get involved with MPI Georgia, and what has your journey on the Board been like so far?
Originally before I became a member, Melissa Legaux and I worked
together at the Atlanta Convention and Visitor's Bureau and she invited me to
the December Luncheon at the Aquarium. At the time, only one of us could
be a member of the organization - so as soon as I joined Salamander, I was
excited to join and get involved. I'm rolling into my 7th year as a board
member and it has taught me so much in terms of leadership, event management,
and allowed me to serve in positions that I would not otherwise get an
opportunity to serve. I've made so many connections, built an ROI for my
company and have continued to make lasting friendships through it all.
Getting to know the personalities on the board and how important
it is to respect and support each other even in differing views and
opinions. I think it continues to teach me to listen more and talk
less. We can learn so much from each other!
For me, I think Phoenix
Awards- I was the Co-Chair of this event two years before joining the BOD and
there's nothing more rewarding than being able to recognize our volunteers for
the work they do behind the scenes for our membership!
*What advice would you give to new members or those considering taking on a leadership role within MPI Georgia?
Just dive in head first! Be honest and just take on what you feel you can. I know volunteering seems a little scary at first for different reasons - not enough time, maybe you don't know anyone and are a little apprehensive about that, maybe you feel that you're not sure you can do the job - whatever it is - YOU CAN! There's nothing more rewarding and I promise - You'll Be Great! Just get involved, even if it's an hour a month!
