The Georgia Chapter of MPI welcomes member Courtney Hitzel, Corporate Events Manager at RSUI Group, Inc, a leading underwriter of wholesale specialty insurance based in Atlanta, Georgia. She joined the chapter in September 2021. Courtney manages the Events & Travel department at RSUI, overseeing the internal team working on employee engagement events, onsite meetings, employee travel, and broker seminars. The team is also busy planning social events, including sporting event ticketing, retirement and anniversary celebrations, holiday parties, family festivals, department outings, socials, and off-site team-building retreats. In addition, Courtney manages the planning and onsite execution of their external incentive programs for top-producing brokers within each of the product lines.

Courtney’s first job in the meeting industry was in the Events department at Universal Orlando Resort. “What stood out most was the variety in day-to-day ranging anywhere from a marketing/PR event for a new attraction opening to a full park buyout for a corporate group. It sparked my love for planning events and was such a great creative outlet!” A graduate of Rosen College of Hospitality Management at UCF in Orlando, Florida, MPI was a huge topic of conversation during Courtney’s studies in Event Management. She has always been interested in joining. After working at multiple hotels in remote destinations for a few years, she moved to Atlanta. Courtney knew it would be the perfect time to get acquainted in the city with a network of like-minded professionals. Her former Director of Human Resources at The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch, would quote the following during leadership meetings which resonated with Courtney as she developed her career path and how she places value on the power of effective teamwork. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

As Corporate Events Manager with RSUI Group, Inc., Courtney is currently working on their upcoming 2-week long annual RSUI Classic at Pebble Beach in California where the company brings their top- producing brokers for 6 separate golf tournaments, 2 pickle ball tournaments, 2 bocce ball tournaments, spa services, activities for spouses, and themed events each evening. “This will be our 32nd year going to Pebble Beach for this event, and it has become a tradition like no other! In addition, we host a festive costume party on Thursday where our attendees go all out, so we are looking forward to our “Bash on the Bayou” this year (Mardi Gras theme).”

Courtney’s family is spread throughout the Southeast, which made her want to move back to the area after living in Colorado for 4 years. Her mom and stepfather live in Winter Garden, Florida, and she is her biggest cheerleader, greatest supporter, and typically Courtney’s first call when she wants to talk through something with someone. Her stepfather is from Wimbledon, United Kingdom, and she’s been trying her best to perfect her British accent with him. Courtney’s dad and stepmother live in Charlotte, North Carolina, and he travels to Atlanta often for work. So she happily has been able to see him more frequently. She has two older sisters, Kimmy, who lives in Tampa, Florida, and is a teacher, and Katie, who lives in Columbia, South Carolina, and works in specialty pharmacy for a VA hospital. “They both have the cutest little kiddos that I try to see whenever I can (Kinley, Logan, and Oliver). “I’ve always been very close to my family and always enjoy any opportunity I can visit them. My dad is one of 6 boys in his family, so I have a large extended family. There is never a dull moment!”

As one might guess, Courtney loves to travel. Her next work destination is Park City, Utah, for an upcoming Producer Outing. She is also planning an international trip through Wales, England, and Scotland. “While every moment will be wonderful, the highlight will be when we ride the Jacobite Steam Train in Scotland which was featured in the Harry Potter films as “The Hogwarts Express,” and I plan to totally geek out.”
