As we recently learned from the Events Industry Council (EIC,) here are highlights of the CMP updates underway:
- February 2025 – The new International Standards, on which the CMP exam is based, were released
- April 1 to May 31 – More than 200 CMP candidates took the new Beta version of the CMP exam
- June 1 to July 31 – No CMP exam will be given
- Early August 2025 – A new CMP exam will be available
If you want to earn your CMP certification and have not yet submitted your CMP application to the EIC, we suggest some action steps you may want to take before August 1, 2025:
- Create a profile at the www.eventscouncil.org website and ensure you are documenting and tracking meeting management education hours as you earn them. A minimum of 25 clock hours is required to apply to take the CMP exam.
- Review the new International Standards and focus your education hours on key Domains, skills and subskills to enhance your understanding of the body of knowledge included in this document. The link to the International Standards is here.
- Reach out to the CMP Study Group Committee and request the list of meeting management education hours, most of which are complimentary.
- Update your resume to include your current event and meeting management responsibilities
If you have any questions about the CMP process or what is required to earn your CMP designation, please email Connie Bergeron, CMP Fellow, at connie@siteselectionsolutions.com and Gregg Lauer, CMP, Associate Director, Site Selection at Etherio, and Vice Chair of the CMP Study Group Committee, at glauer@etherio.com.
