*What inspired you to get involved with MPI Georgia, and what has your journey on the Board been like so far?
I first became involved with
MPI Georgia after being approached by a friend at a networking event who asked
me to Chair one of MPI Georgia's annual strategic events. This role
introduced me to the organization's incredible community and opportunities for
professional growth. My journey on the Board has been a dynamic experience,
starting as Director of Education in 2021 and now as Director of Leadership
Development. Each position has allowed me to take on new challenges, develop
essential skills, and foster relationships within the industry. It’s been a
rewarding path that continues to shape my career.
*How has your experience with MPI Georgia influenced your professional growth and perspective on the meeting and events industry?
MPI Georgia has significantly
expanded my perspective on the industry by exposing me to diverse
professionals, innovative ideas, and best practices. Through my involvement,
I’ve developed skills in strategic planning, leadership, and team
collaboration, all of which have directly impacted my professional growth. I
have made connections that have brought business to our venues and expanded my
network throughout the Event Industry. The organization has also deepened my
understanding of the industry’s evolving trends and reinforced the importance
of building meaningful connections.
*What has been the most rewarding aspect of your role as a Board member, and how has it impacted your approach to leadership?
As the Director of Leadership,
I’ve had the unique opportunity to study and develop leadership skills while
helping my colleagues grow in their own leadership journeys, which has been
incredibly rewarding. This role has taught me the value of continuous learning,
adaptability, and empowering others. It has transformed my approach to
leadership by emphasizing the value of empowering others to reach their full
potential and ensuring that leadership is seen as a shared journey, not just an
individual responsibility.
*What do you see as the biggest opportunity or priority for MPI Georgia in the coming year?
The biggest opportunity for
MPI Georgia lies in enhancing member engagement and fostering a sense of
belonging. With the events industry continuing to adapt and innovate, I see a
priority in providing resources, educational opportunities, and platforms for
meaningful networking to support professionals at every stage of their careers.
Strengthening connections within our community will position MPI Georgia as an
even greater resource for its members.
*Which MPI Georgia event are you most proud to have been a part of, and why?
I am most proud of chairing the Tech Summit, where I led the event during an incredibly challenging time. Originally scheduled as a live event just days before the COVID shutdown, we quickly pivoted to a virtual format in both 2020 and 2021. It was a rewarding experience to navigate such uncertainty, adapt to new technologies, and deliver a successful event that provided value to our members during a critical time for our industry.
*What advice would you give to new members or those considering taking on a leadership role within MPI Georgia?
My advice would be to dive in wholeheartedly and take advantage of the opportunities to get involved. Don’t hesitate to volunteer, connect with others, and ask questions. Leadership roles may seem intimidating at first, but they’re some of the most rewarding experiences you can have. Each role will challenge you, teach you new skills, and allow you to make a meaningful impact. Most importantly, don’t underestimate the power of building relationships within this incredible community—it’s one of the greatest benefits of being part of MPI Georgia.
