MPI GA Announces New Community Outreach Effort

Atlanta is home to many things: Coca-Cola, CNN, the Atlanta Falcons, and the world’s busiest airport, just to name a few. Many don’t know about the darker side of Atlanta… our city is one of the largest hubs of human trafficking nationwide.

Startling Statistics:

  • Sex trafficking is the second largest criminal enterprise in the world.
  • On average, 100 juvenile girls are exploited each night in Georgia, with more than 90% of the victims being enrolled in school at the time of the incident.
  • Large events such as the Super Bowl that is coming to Atlanta in 2019 bring more crowds to the city and also more human trafficking.

Our chapter is proud to join MPI Global and take a stand against human trafficking. We will be supporting the Covenant House, a local shelter that takes in juveniles who are victims of human trafficking. The community outreach committee will be working to raise awareness of human trafficking and what you can do to prevent it amongst the hospitality community and in our city.

How You Can Help:

  • SERVE: Take a stand with MPI Georgia to end human trafficking. The first confirmed event to support the Covenant House is on Saturday, November 17. We will be serving dinner to 60 youth residents. If you would like to make a food donation for the meal, please contact Stephanie Soto with Small Group Teambuilding. Event details forthcoming.
  • CONTRIBUTE: We will be taking monetary donations for the Covenant House at the educational luncheon on Tuesday, September 18. Stephanie Soto and Maria Weiss are leading this effort.
  • DONATE: The Covenant House is always in need of the following essentials: blankets, pillows, hats, gloves, scarves, underwear and socks. Please contact Laura Steele, CMP if you are interested in donating any of these items for more details.  For our hotelier members, Covenant House will take used blankets/pillows that a hotel may be discarding, as well as new products.

Covenant House Georgia
We are much more than a shelter. We provide unconditional love and comprehensive support so that our youth can and will realize their fullest potential. In fact, seeing their potential is our greatest motivation. We are optimistic about the power of a stable, loving environment to inspire a fresh start in their lives. It is a privilege to support our youth during some of their most formative years. We empower them to finish high school, start college, gain employment, live independently, and ultimately step out into the world knowing they are prepared to be successful.
