As a part of raising awareness of human trafficking within our chapter, on Saturday, November 16th MPI Georgia volunteered to serve lunch at Covenant House, a local shelter that takes in juveniles who are victims of human trafficking. This has been a Community Service project that MPI Georgia has chosen for the past two year. The Covenant House is an international organization, spanning over 6 countries and 30 cities. Their Georgia branch opened in 2000 and has served more than 18,000 homeless, runaway and trafficked youth in Atlanta. At Covenant House, the victims are provided unconditional love and comprehensive support during their formative years so that the youth can and will realize their fullest potential. The youth are empowered to finish high school, start college, gain employment, live independently, and ultimately step out into the world knowing they are prepared to be successful.
Due to the generous donations from Proof of the Pudding and Coca-Cola volunteers served deluxe boxed lunched and a variety of Coke products. While the youth were enjoying their lunches the volunteers from MPI-GA enjoyed mentoring the crew and residents.
After enjoying lunch, the residents and volunteers participated in group activities and fun games. The youth competed while keeping the balloon off the ground without using any hands and running in the egg races. Not only did the residents and volunteers have a blast, the residents enjoyed well deserved relaxation time and were awarded prizes.
How You Can Help:
- SERVE: Pledge with the Community Outreach Committee to take a stand with MPI Georgia to end human trafficking by serving lunch to 60 youth residents.
- DONATE ESSENTIALS: The Covenant House is always in need of the following: blankets, pillows. hats, gloves, scarves, underwear and socks. Contact Lindsay for you are interested in donating. For our hotelier members, Covenant House will take used blankets/pillows that a hotel may be discarding, as well as new products.
Covenant House Georgia
We are much more than a shelter. We provide unconditional love and comprehensive support so that our youth can and will realize their fullest potential. In fact, seeing their potential is our greatest motivation. We are optimistic about the power of a stable, loving environment to inspire a fresh start in their lives. It is a privilege to support our youth during some of their most formative years. We empower them to finish high school, start college, gain employment, live independently, and ultimately step out into the world knowing they are prepared to be successful.
