Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) is the country’s largest annual youth STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Math) event.
It combines the following: a national science fair competition; social, cultural, and recreational activities for youth participants; an educator conference for adult participants; and an interactive tradeshow for all participants and thousands of visitors.
At the heart of the week-long event, Canada’s top young scientists compete for medals, cash awards, scholarships and other prizes worth nearly $1 million.

The EVENT began in 2018 as collaboration between the Ottawa, Montréal/Québec and Toronto and MPI Chapters. This year’s virtual conference, held on April 13-16, was a huge success. The EVENT 2021 was all about coming on Stronger, Wiser, Safer; and it exceeded the traditional norms of virtual events. It kept us engaged, entertained, and educated.
Today, we are spotlighting Rose-Marie Guerra, CMP, DES, Special Events Coordination Manager, at the Department of Justice Canada. Learn more about her here!

Hear from our Chapter President for this Quarter: "Spring is in the air and with it comes renewed hope that the live portion of our meetings and events industry is starting to poke its head up like the tulips." - Nancy Bradshaw, MPI Ottawa
In the midst of this chaotic pandemic, it is quite daring and hope-filled to see that the students of the Event Management Program at Algonquin College are still so enthusiastic to learn the ropes of what the future of events may look like and how to make the best out of it. Be sure to register for one or more of these seven events; and spread the word about these worthy projects. It will make a huge difference for all the students and the charities being supported.

2020 was definitely a year to remember . . . or, maybe it was one we’d rather soon forget! Like most events in 2020, the Annual Festive Dinner took place virtually. The planning committee was faced with the challenge of creating a fun and engaging event to wrap up what was a challenging year and to truly connect with our peers over the holiday season. Rather than looking back, they chose to look ahead, inviting everyone to login to “Eat. Drink. Be Cozy and Sleigh Hello to 2021!”
All though Event Entertainment may revolve around a theme, which is determined by the goals of an event - everything else including design, decorations, sounds and lights, is illuminated by this theme. Entertainment quality depends a lot on how elements of programming function in a well-balanced and harmonious manner. How much impact entertainment is going to have depends on how well it is executed.
In setting up a virtual or hybrid event, where does one start? What are lower thirds? How do I incorporate PowerPoint slides? My conference needs to be bilingual; how does that work? All these questions are top of mind for planners. Finding answers can be daunting and research often generates more questions.
