The Communications Committee collaborates with committees across the chapter to promote chapter events and initiatives. Our work includes managing MPI Potomac’s social media platforms, coordinating email campaigns, designing graphics, updating the website, producing podcasts, publishing the monthly FYI e-newsletter, and creating the annual membership directory.
The FYI e-newsletter is prepared and distributed on the 2nd Thursday of each month. It highlights upcoming Chapter events and updates, professional development and career opportunities, educational programs, and member recognition.
Skills needed: content writing, finding and/or creating graphics, proofreading/editing, attention to detail
GRAPHIC DESIGN
Pictures and images, or “graphics” help to convey a message, grab the reader’s attention and are visually appealing. Graphics are utilized in e-blasts, the FYI e-newsletter, social media posts, event signage, and the Chapter website.
Skills needed: creativity, knowledge of Canva (not required but willing to learn), design layout, branding
PODCASTS
Podcasts are digital audio content distributed over the internet using a podcast hosting service and serve as a powerful marketing tool to discuss and learn more about a topic and explore common interests.
Skills needed: researching engaging topics for listeners, content creation, creativity, organization
SOCIAL MEDIA
The Chapter utilizes LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook to promote its upcoming events and initiatives.
Skills needed: content creation (posts, reels, stories), proofreading, strong understanding of platform strengths and limitations
WEBSITE
The Chapter website captures industry innovative and relevant education, networking opportunities, and business exchanges.
Skills needed: content writing, proofreading/editing, graphic design, attention to detail, design layout
