Congratulations on your decision to join the elite global community of professionals on the pathway towards their CMP designation!
You may have heard about the exciting change for our organization and the CMP credential. Following a rigorous process, it became apparent that in order to be a true representative of our evolving industry our organization needed to evolve for the future. A name change to include ‘events’ would better reflect the organizations we represent and you – the meeting and event professionals we serve. The Convention Industry Council is now the Events Industry Council.
The CMP credential remains recognized globally as the badge of excellence in the meeting, convention, exhibition, and event industry. The Certified Meeting Professional – powered by the Events Industry Council – has a new look to increase consumer recognition of the CMP and its association with the Events Industry Council, thereby increasing the reach and credibility of the CMP mark.
You may review your eligibility status and sign up for the next CMP exams through your online account at https://myaccount.eventscouncil.org. The remaining 2017 exam
dates are November 3-12, 2017.
The CMP designation can open the door to more and better opportunities in the events industry. Not only are employers seeking CMP certified individuals, achieving your CMP gives you additional earning potential. The May 2017 PCMA Convene mapped out that additional earning potential. CMPs earn, “$10,500 a year more than their colleagues without the designation: $86,847 versus $76,253.”
You’ll be more comfortable on your exam day if you know what to expect when you arrive. Our testing vendor Prometric, has provided a video tutorial that will walk you through the process.
Remember to relax!
There are many continuing education hours you can complete from your own desk. Webinars, both live and on-demand, have already been approved for certification credit through Events Industry Council’s Preferred Provider Program. You can create an account through the Event’s Industry Council’s On Demand Learning Center to access the below listed lectures. Make sure you use the same email address you have on your Events Industry Account to assure your CE credits are reported automatically!

Q. How do I prepare for the CMP exam?
A. The CMP Examination evaluates the skills and knowledge meeting professionals have gained over the course of working in the field. Candidates must apply their experiences
and knowledge along with the materials in the study manuals. Therefore, it is not something for which a candidate can study or prepare for at the last minute. Candidates may prepare for the examination with a careful review of the practice of meeting
management, either individually or as part of a study group. The CMP International Standards(CMP–IS) should be used as a study guide and provides
the number of questions for each domain and skill.
Q. I am preparing for the exam. Which books do I need?
A. We recommend the following books. Click here to purchase them from
our online store.
Q: When I look at the employment requirements, I’m not sure whether or not my job qualifies. How can I be sure?
A: There are many different ways to gain the experience required to sit for the CMP
exam. The definition is broad to account for many, diverse ways our industry has grown. The requirement for work experience is: Work experience should be fullātime work experience in the meeting, event, exhibition, hospitality and tourism industry.
The 36 months does not have to be consecutive but must be within the past five years. Your experience should demonstrate meeting management responsibilities or your role should contribute to the planning, execution, and results of meetings.
Q: What backup documentation should I submit to ensure my virtual education counts towards my hours?
A: You can submit an organizational transcript, certificate, registration confirmation email, receipt of payment,
or screenshots of the first and last screen of the event. You will also need to submit a description of the sessions attended.
